Running Time: 40 minutes Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-05-21 Digital Music Bliss I was introduced to these unique musical pieces via a YouTube link and became hooked. I obtained them and enjoyed both DVDs very much. It is fascinating to see the music happen in time to the apparent music generating mechanisms. It is mesmerizing. My son and my inlaws also found it entertaining so it has wide age appeal. I have always enjoyed music incorporating digital devices like the Muse and the Moog Synthesizer so this was a natural for me. Rating: Date: 2008-04-24 A great concept, well-executed The one thing I want to underline about the DVD set is this: it does not contain electronic music to which computer animation happens to be set. Rather, it's the reverse: the computer animation produces the electronic music. The program that created these sets was designed to create visual instruments that produced corresponding musical sounds as the instruments were "played" on-screen. It's a clever, even brilliant approach, and it's fascinating to see and to hear the results.
One national reviewer (positively) called the music "bombastic", and mostly, it's exactly that. Perhaps it's just me, but there seems to be a bias toward quietude on one end (which I prefer personally) and even more toward loudness on the other, without much emphasis in the middle. If there's a Volume 3, I hope this can be redressed. Meanwhile, if you like electronica, I still recommend these DVDs. Rating: Date: 2008-03-18 fun effects The first disc of this two disc set includes a segment frequently forwarded in emails as a "John Deer musical device" but is actually a computer generated musical Rube-Goldberg device. I bought this set for my wife, who is a music teacher for an elementary school, and her students love it. She uses the videos as an example for her "make your own instrument" lesson to spark creativity and imagination. The music does get a bit repetitive at times and does not make for amazing listening in and of itself but the video is what makes this program. Rating: Date: 2008-01-07 WOW! Fascinating shows! Some cuts are a bit long and repetitive but still fun to watch. I saw a sample first on PBS and had to have it. Guests enjoy watching with me and would like a copy (Great idea for gifts for musicians). Rating: Date: 2008-01-03 Nice videos These videos were a gift for a teenage boy who requested them for Christmas. He heard about them from his Computer Animation teacher. He enjoyed them. They were visually appealing, but the techno music isn't really a favorite of mine. The quality of the product is great - nice clear picture and good sound. |
