Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-07-03 Another Great Rock Album Its a time were music still sucks with the MTV pressing crappy bands, Emo, wanna be so called punk bands, pre made bands, tools of the America Record Industry. Some people just can't enjoy a good Rock album anymore. There expecting something simple, such as The Strokes,The Killers, AFI, My Chimical Romance, and all the other bands that fall under that style of music. Yet Filter, minus everyone else, has released a good amount of music that will keep fans happy. There are certain people that wanted to hear the old filter, but bands change. Look at Metallica (The Load - Saint Anger years). This cd is amazing. Army of Anyone was a great band, but the STP brothers are back with STP. I had the chance to see Filter in Kuwait back in March at the Myspace concert. And Patrick before the show was walking around talking to everyone, siging cds, giving out tshirts. He is a great person. I even got a pic taken with him. So take the time and give this cd a chance. Its rock, not MTV crap they have made you listin to. Rating: Date: 2008-07-02 Filter--Anthems for the Damned I simply cannot get excited over this fourth Filter release. I picked it up based on principle alone given that I liked every Filter record prior to "Anthems." I wish Mr. Patrick and company had seen fit to produce a harder-edged album with some (and far fewer) softer tracks planted throughout. The softer tunes tend to drag on a bit, weighting both the record and the listener down. There is possibly one rougher, faster-paced tune and the rest of "Anthems" is a sea of mellow. In essence, I think a few more rougher, angrier songs would have provided a kind of glue needed to bind this record together and possibly more successfully convey their anti-war message. On the purely material side of this, if you wanna rock, this is not the record for you. And if you appreciate their mellower, more melodic side, this still might not be for you as those mellower songs are lack-luster. Rating: Date: 2008-07-01 Less industrial but still as rich as everything else Filter has ever put out. As expected before I'd even heard a single track off this record, it sounds like a combination of earlier Filter (especially "The Amalgamut" and "Title of Record") and Patrick's other collaboration Army of Anyone. "Anthems for the Damned" is something of an evolution away from the harsher industrial sounds of the earlier records. Never-mind though because this is a five star record loaded with rich soundscapes and sonic vistas that will likely induce episodes of contemplation alternating with serious in-car head-banging (and accompanying stares from other drivers). Don't take anyone else's word for it.. listen to it and make up your own mind! Rating: Date: 2008-06-30 Excellent record! I can't get enough of this record! I've been listening to it everyday for the past few weeks and it's a testament to the brilliance of Richard Patricks skills. I've been a HUGE Filter fan ever since Short Bus(which is my favorite record ever). I was a bit reluctant about this record after seeing some negative reviews about it, but fortunetly, these reviews were horribly wrong. It's a great concept album! I think the songs are simalar to Title of Record(if one must compare to Filter's past). If you've ever liked Filter, you should buy this. Rating: Date: 2008-06-30 Another Great One Once again Mr. Patrick and his buddies have provided us with another awesome album of melodic industrial rock. There are many emotional connections that come through along with the reality of condition of the US government and our troops. Thank you Richard for once again for providing us with another album that will last a lifetime. Prock |
