Album Description: Recorded on a budget, The EP established Arcade Fire before they were signed. Features the 7 tracks 'Old Flame', 'I'm Sleeping In A Submarine', 'No Cars Go', 'The Woodland National Anthem', 'My Heart Is An Apple', 'Headlight Look Like Diamonds' & 'Vampires Forest Fire'. Rough Trade. 2005. Amazon.com: Arcade Fire fans are an enthusiastic bunch, and they've been hungry for more music from their favorite group. But be forewarned, this EP was actually recorded and released by the band independently in 2003. The EP is an interesting view into the development of these musicians; decidedly less experienced at that point, the band didn't have quite as much oomph as they do now. When you compare these tracks with their first single, "Rebellion (Lies)" from Funeral, you can immediately feel a difference in confidence, from vocals on through to orchestration. That said, there is still plenty for fans to enjoy on this EP; for starters, none of these seven songs show up on their full-length, so that gives Fire fans an extra half hour of music to enjoy. Secondly, husband and wife team Win Butler and Régine Chassagne's vocals and songwriting still shine, most especially on the standout "No Cars Go" and the beautifully fragile "Headlights Look Like Diamonds." Funeral remains the best introduction to Arcade Fire, but this CD is still a great glimpse of a band with a bright future ahead. --Denise Sheppard Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-04-06 Arcade Fire Pleases the Soul! This is a CD of original recordings. Many of which are classic Arcade Fire sounds, complex chords and sounds of feeling.
If you are a fan of "No Cars Go" that you have heard perhaps on the Super Bowl this year, or on the radio, purchase this CD. It has the original recording of "No Cars Go". Vampire/Forest Fire is an intrigueing song that particularly stands out to me.
Overall I give this CD an A+! Rating: Date: 2007-10-08 This band sucks. Title says it all. This band sucks. It's almost painful to listen to, like to idiots drooling on a microphone. Rating: Date: 2007-09-24 Good music, good transaction Everything went hunky-dory in this transaction: the CD arrived in good shape, on time, and it's great music. Rating: Date: 2007-08-02 Brilliant Let me say first that I bought this EP after owning their 2 later full-length albums. I saw Arcade Fire live a couple times and now I'm hooked. They played "My Heart is an Apple" live and I ended up buying this EP as a result.
At first listen, the style sounds a bit different, more raw. There is an early version of "No Cars Go" on this which is great. The more I listen, the more smitten I am becoming with their music, particularly on this CD. You can really hear many beautiful musical arrangements, such as in the dreamy song "Vampire/Forest Fire". This album definitely holds up on its own as something really great.
Rating: Date: 2007-04-02 The beginning........... A re-released EP after their much acclaimed debut full-length album Funeral. Though not as dense and charged up as their full length debut, there were signs that the band would emerged as a class act in the future: No Cars Go (also in Neon Bible) and Headlights Look Like Diamonds are standout tracks.
Overall an enjoyable EP, though not in the league of Funeral.
But then, not many albums can even be compared to Funeral. |
