Blackout is not a brilliant record for its vocals, though they're good in the cooing, sex-kittenish way we've come to expect (check first single "Gimme More," a monstrously catchy dance-pop number, for the requisite moans and sighs). But it is brilliant. And though the Neptunes, Bloodshy & Avant, and Nate "Danja" Hills do their trippy, thumpy, raved-up thing successfully enough to make you think so, the brilliance isn't in the production only. The crackling "Radar" gets under your skin not just because of its club-ready beat, a familiar element on this disc, but also from Britney's deliberate vocal haze; here she is interpreting how she ought to sound against the heat of this track, and pretty skillfully--she goes for pure vibe, and she gets it. And while the words to the seemingly autobiographical "Piece of Me" are enough to pull you in themselves--here we get to hear Britney refer to herself as "Miss Bad Media Karma"--they get a little something extra from our girl's newly awakened sense of what makes a song flow; she has the good sense to squeal. Gimme more of this music please
I purchased this cd around November 2007 and have been playing it ever since. I like listening to it alot on my way to work and coming home from work. I admit that I have the standard version of the cd minus the import but after reading the long island review I will definitely consider the import as well. There were many strong songs on the standard cd. The two favorite songs that I have been playing the most on the cd would be track number 4 "break the ice" and track number 10 "ooh ooh baby" The reason being is because these tracks are sensual and fun in my opinion. "Heaven on Earth" is also very good and makes you feel that you are at a dance club. "Gimme More" stands out in a positive way because it shows her confident as well daring side. "Piece of Me" pokes fun at the paparazzi in a lighthearted way and helps you see her side of the story. "On my radar" starts out with a very catchy eurodance type of tune that creatively expressed her desire to obtain the man she has her eyes on. "Get naked" is another song where you can picture yourself at a danceclub at night being paid attention to by a handsome man with a sexy voice. "Freakshow", "toy soldier","hot as ice", and "perfect lover" are songs that grew on me after a couple of plays. "Why should I be sad" is a good song for her to have closed out the standard cd (yes I feel this way even though I do not play "why should I be sad" as often as the other songs). The reason why I feel that she made a good choice with using that song to close out is because once again she creatively told her side of the story on why things between her and Kevin had to come to an end. With how challenging her personal life was at the time this cd came out I would like to add that she really did a great job at putting forth her best effort creatively. I have to agree with some of the reviewers that pointed out that its important to separate how you feel about how she lives her personal life from the music she puts out. Yes, I can understand why some critics would judge a musician in relation to their personal life (its obvious that a challenging personal life will affect how the music turns out). However it must be noted that aside from her personal life (which in my opinion is important to be nonjudgemental about) this cd was very well put together and I feel that she made some good choices on the individuals she chose to collaborate with. These are some of the reasons why I would recommend this cd. Rating:

"Blackout" Best Pop Album Ever!
I've been a Britney's fan for over 8 years now...I've heard a lot of things in the "Pop World" but this album is the best by far in years. My favourite record was "Britney" and not until I listened to "Blackout" did I realize how good it is. All song are "A+" but my favourite ones are "Gimme More", "Piece of Me", "Break the Ice" and "Toy Soldier".
Blackout as an album holds together better than any of her other records, echoing the sleek club-centric feel of In the Zone but it's heavier on hedonism than its predecessor, stripped of any ballads or sensitivity, and just reveling in dirty good times, is state-of-the-art dance-pop, a testament to skills of the producers and Britney herself.

Only thing that keeps me awake at work...
This album is hype and makes me feel like I'm clubbing at work! I loves it! Go Britney! :) I love the synth-pop sound! Classic but more modern simplistic singing Britney! My fav jams are Radar, Piece of Me, Toy Soldier, Break the Ice and Why Should I Be Sad?...For a quick pick me up, put this on ur iPod. Forget the energy drinks! :) Rating:

Better than I expected
This cd was so much better than I would have suspected. I've been a Britney fan since the beginning and this is probably the "realest" of her cds. I love all of her cds, but in this one she seemed like she had emotion and life stories she wanted to sing about. |
