small, easy to use
This epilator is small and easy to use. It's not very efficient though, because your hair grows back in a few days, it's not picking up the hairs from the roots well. Otherwise it's pain free and cute. Rating:

I'm very pleased
I was reluctant to purchase this product after the disaster I had with the first Epi-Lady that came out. Talk about painful. Being a brunette, the hair on my face, arms and legs are not light. I tried it on my arm first and the hair came right off. The first use was not really painful but it had a warm tingling sensation - kind of like getting a tattoo. I then used it on my face where I am plagued with chin whiskers. I took them right out and I didn't feel a thing. It was wonderful. What took me an hour to pluck before was done in less than 3 minutes. It didn't get every hair but I'd say it got 90% of them and I just waited another day, went over the area again and got the rest. I did try it on my underarm and again, it worked like a charm. I'm not interested in using in on my legs as it's just easier to shave them but for those of you who have the chin/mustache hair that won't go away, GET THIS PRODUCT. It works better than tweezing, waxing, Nair etc. I've already recomended it to many of my friends and they are anxious to get theres. Rating:

Finally, No More Shaving for Me!
I'm a female with hirituism (due to PCOS) and I have had a problem with male-like beard growth since I was 13 years old. Ever since that age I have been shaving the hair on my chin and cheeks, and the hair just got fuller and more coarse over the years. On top of that, I have developed razor bumps and hyperpigmentation from shaving so often (every other day). My chin area just looks disgusting and has often prevented me from feeling feminine/attractive or getting close to others for fear of them seeing it.
I recieved my Braun 3170 today along with another product that I had ordered, called Bump Stopper 2 (to treat my razor bumps). I have never waxed or tweezed, so I was a little scared of what the pain of epilating might be like. I started with Speed 1 on my cheeks. It did hurt, but I could deal with it. It took me about 20 minutes to do the right side of my face.
Once I started getting used to the pain, I moved on to my chin area, which has a LOT of hair, very similar to a man's beard but a tad more sparse. It hurt like hell and I actually turned the epilator off for a minute so that I could compose myself. But I knew it was going to hurt because of the large amount of hair that was there, so I sucked it up and started again, staying motivated by reminding myself of how much better my face will look with all of this hair gone.
After another 20 minutes or so of doing my chin, I got tired of it taking so long, so I turned it up to Speed 2. The faster speed actually hurt less and the process started going much faster. And since I wasnt in as much pain anymore, I switched to the Efficiency Pro Clip Adapter and that got the hairs out even faster. I was delighted to watch the hairs fall into the sink! Thats what kept me going despite the pain that I was still feeling.
The pain also lessened as more hair was removed, since less hairs were being ripped out at a time...so the less hair you have, the less it hurts.
It took me another 30 minutes or so to finish my face completely. I washed my face off with antibacterial soap, dried it off, and applied the Bump Stopper 2. My face is now smooth(despite a few swollen places) and hair free. The swelling is minimal and is going away quickly. I am so glad I got the Braun 3170 epilator. My only regret is that I didnt start epilating sooner.
If you want the hair gone badly enough, you can and WILL endure the pain to get the great results! Rating:

Basically Just Makes Shaving Last Longer
This was my first time using an epilator. I read in reviews for this and other epilators that they sometimes break hair off just below the surface of the skin, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. That is exactly what happened. It probably only pulls out about 50% of my leg hair at the root and the rest just breaks off.
The good thing is that if you continue to epilate the hair that grows back, more gets pulled out at the root each time, and it's less painful because there is less hair. I have to repeat at least once a week though to maintain smooth legs. I've also found that if shave in addition to epilating, my legs are really smooth and they stay that way for about a week.
I tried a little patch on my armpit and it actually seemed to work better there than on leg hair. You have to be really careful to keep your skin as taught as possible though, or you can really hurt yourself.
Since this was my first epilator, I'm not sure if it dosen't work as well as it should or if I just have really fragile leg hair. I will probably try another brand to see if it works better.
I would definitely recommend epilating to waxing, it hurts a lot less. And if you combine it with shaving, it helps your legs stay smoother for longer. Rating:

I do not like shaving, and this epilator is great for the price, 15 days without having to epilate again, very soft legs. Do not use it for the bikini line, too hard on it! |
