Product Description: Further development of Canon's flagship Speedlite has led to the production of the 580 EX II. This is the premier Speedlite for all photographers, including professionals. Newly designed to match with the EOS-1D Mark III in terms of improved dust- and water-resistance, body strength, and the ability to control flash functions and settings from the camera menu (EOS-1D Mark III only). Other features include improved communication reliability through its direct contacts, and recycling time is both 20% shorter than the 580EX and is completely inaudible. Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-07-08 Great product Great flash, very durable. I just wish the recycle time was just a tad faster. Rating: Date: 2008-07-06 A really good flash, but typical canon shotcomings I've purchased two of these of units, because I use the second on my second camera for weddings, and I'm also experimenting with using a second flash off the camera, via the infrared wireless, which I think is really cool. I have no complaints whatsoever about the flash itself. Very fast, very quiet, very accurate, great recycle time, and the wireless options are really convenient. However, like all other canon products, it is not designed with "user-friendliness" in mind. If the camera is used in its most basic modes, it's very simple to use. However, if you want to experiment with other modes, things get pretty confusing, and the owner's manual is no help. Rating: Date: 2008-06-23 Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash for Canon EOS Digital Great flash unit! Metal base and mounting lock much better than 580ex. A must for any Canon EOS system. The II is nicer. Good job Canon. Rating: Date: 2008-06-23 Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash I am strictly a home/hobby photographer but This Flash has very good range, recycles very fast and has lots of flexibility in it's usess. I have not used it enough yet to see how the battery life. Overall it seems to do a very good job Rating: Date: 2008-06-20 Almost impossible to believe Its a flash that works very well with fairly close poorly lit subjects. Some shots seem better than my day light shots.
Not so hot on poorly lit subjects farther away, shots look like what you would expect from a flash, which is what it is only a flash, not a flood light:)
