In the transmission mode, it actually strengthens the signal, providing you with a significant reduction in noise on reception and transmission. Amazon.com Product Description: This sleek, compact mobile CB radio can quickly and accurately scan through all 40 CR channels. The easy-to-read display shows the channel number, incoming signal strength, and RE power output. The radio can pick up 10 NOAA Weather Radio channels so you always have up-to-the-minute weather news. Its Dual Watch function allows simultaneous monitoring of 2 channels. The heavy-duty microphone extends to 9 feet and has dynamic voice response circuitry for clear communication. The Cobra 18 WX ST II's squelch control eliminates background noise when there is no signal. The unit also provides instant access to emergency channels 9 and 19 for emergency announcements. Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-06-01 Not so great I've had this CB for 10 months now. The main reasons I bought it for are the compact size and multi-scan features, which work well. However two real big gripes about this radio are no RF gain control and it's "super shiny light reflecting" black tinted face which makes it extremely difficult to read what channel you're on in daylight. I often have to have the squelch set so high to block static (from everywhere), that I don't get reception anyway. It also makes a little static "tick" noise as it does it two channel priority watch scan, which I find very annoying. In fact, I no longer turn the radio on when I'm in the vehicle. I would not buy this model radio again and am planning to replace it. Rating: Date: 2008-05-28 Picks Noise from Everything I have three CB radios: Honda JC-216H for my motorcycle ($600.- and it's the reason that I start with CB), Midland 75-822 ($85), and this Cobra 18 WX ST II ($64). My ratings to these three CB are: Cobra 1 star, Midland and Honda 5 stars.
The 18WX is very bad compare with 75-822 about noise filtering. I installed them two in the same SUV with identical antennas (Cobra HGA-1500), the 18WX picks noise from every thing: engine, fuel pump, folding motor of mirror, air conditioner, horn and even horn of those cars beside you. The 75-822 just pick nothing but a little the folding motor. It's totally terrible when you use it while driving.
Rating: Date: 2008-04-25 Great service-product Product was shipped and recieved very fast, and in great shape. This is a great CB radio with NOAA radio, and has scan for the cb channels. A great buy Rating: Date: 2008-02-22 Cobra 18 WX ST 2 I recently installed this radio in my Toyota FJ Cruiser. I didn't want a hand held unit so I purchased this one. It has all the features one would need for any off-roading. I choose to mount the unit on the center console, passenger side. It is clean, easy to get to and not in the way of any passenger. I also like like the 10 NOAA channel feature. It comes in handy.
I did purchase a kit specifically for the FJ to complete this. I used a bandi antenna mount, firestik coax cable, super heavy antenna mount spring, quick release and 3' firestik adjustabe antenna.
For the price this is a pretty good unit. Rating: Date: 2007-12-12 Nice useful features. Good entry level CB I purchased this CB because I did not want to spend over $100 dollars.(in case of theft) It has a scan feature which is great, but I agree with the previous post that you sometimes have to play with the squelch to get some channels(while scanning). Weather channels are nice and the overall appearance of the radio is modern and not 70'ish. Soundtracker must be selected every time you turn the radio on if you really want to clearly hear anyone.(as it automatically shuts off the feature when the radio is turned off). Almost inaudible without this feature. It also has an rear plug if you happen to place the radio inside the glove box or arm rest center console area, you can run an external speaker to where you want it.You can swith between emergency channel 9 and info channel 19 by the push of a button. The handheld mic feels "Cheap","hollow" and "bulky" in contrast to the rest of the radio. I placed in center console of 2005 F150 and fit perfectly. MOST IMPORTANT(GOOD CABLE,GOOD ANTENNA, LOCATION). 18' low loss coaxial cable. I originally bought 12' because i did not want alot of bundled up cable under the carpet but I had to end up buying 18'. I am using with a 4' Wilson FGT antenna and I am between 1.5-1.7 SWR. Very pleased with the general appearance, features and size of this CB. Thank you. |
