Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-06-28 Good product...not perfect This laptop cooler does a good job overall. It is wide enough and provides a stable platform. The fans are virtually silent due to the low rpm's. However, this is also the cooler's biggest shortcoming. The fans just don't provide much airflow. This product would be much better if it had multiple speeds. It does provide decent cooling, and for most people will be enough to provide the relief they are looking for. Another caveat, if you are planning to move this cooler around much, it is quite heavy and most people will find it cumbersome. The cooler is well-built and works as advertized. It just falls short of being a great product. Rating: Date: 2008-06-21 Does not cool at all I got this cooler for my Macbook pro 15 inch. The fans are definitely very very quiet, but I think the reason why they're so quiet is because they blow so little air out from the fans. The air that's being blown out is equivalent to someone gently blowing through their mouth. The made the air output absolutely negligible, and so the heat on my Macbook Pro is still very hot. I didn't notice a drop in temperature at all. The aluminum cooler actually started heating up as well.
This cooler did not work for me. So that's $30 down the drain. Rating: Date: 2008-06-11 Exellent: 8 degree celsius drop during encoding. Macbook Pro 15 inch.
15 minutes into encoding would raise the CPU temp to 77C and the GPU diode reports 85C.
With notepal cooler, the temp for CPU is 69C and the GPU Diode is at 73C.
"Temperature Monitor" was used to measure temps.
Why buy this when the smcfancontrol app can increase fan speed and cool your laptop? 1) Revving your internal fans can shorten the life of your notebook fan leading to an annoying replacement and possible voiding of the warranty 2) Trying to rev the fans up in Windows mode (bootcamp) requires using smcfancontrol in OS X then rebooting into windows. Rating: Date: 2008-06-04 A Balancing Act... I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 and the Notepal is not deep enough, front to back, for my PC to sit in it properly. It is also heavy. Especially when combined with my PC. Picture me trying to sit and hold my PC, this cooler, and do a balancing act to hold it all together without dropping the whole thing. It will keep your computer running cool. But the reason I bought it was to keep my leg from burning up while holding my laptop in my lap. The 2 fans are relatively quiet and are supposed to be good for 30,000 hours. It comes with a USB cable and needs no other power source. If you only use your laptop on a desktop then this might be good enough but lap use is precarious at best. Rating: Date: 2008-05-25 Good product, as advertised, promptly recieved. Pros:
-Thank god! A cooling fan wide enough for my widescreen laptop!
-Works effectively
- The angled front is a VERY comfortable alternative to the other cooling mats I've tried where the laptop just sits on top. That was so uncomfortable it hurt my wrists. So, good for short people!
- As advertised, quick processing and shipping.
- On/off switch. I consider it a pro that you can turn it on and off because I don't want it using extra power for the fans if I'm running low power options and trying to conserve battery life. (It's not like it would be producing the same amount of heat as playing a graphics intensive game so I don't need it in that circumstance.)
Cons
- My speaker/headphone ports are located in the front, so this is a bit of an inconvenience due to how the angled front blocks that. When I do need to use headphones, it does kind of rest in a bit of an awkward way but it's still very much preferable to the discomfort of other mats.
- Yes, as the video poster pointed out, for my HP notebook , it does not slide into the front which is designed to almost latch your notebook down for stability. It doesn't fit because the notebook is too thick. However, due to it actually being the apropriate width and having the ergonomic hand rest, I still find it to be more stable than other products I have used in the past where the laptop was hanging off the sides and front.
In summary, I am glad I purchased this product. |
