Product Description: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII PSP Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-07-04 A nice God of War addition, but to short! My title says it all, if you like God of War you will like Chains also. The graphics are very good and the controls worked better then I had expected, but the game is about a chapter or two too short. I expected about ten hours of game play and Chains clocked in at only about seven. A good game, would have been great if longer, but not a must play if you have to pay full price. Rating: Date: 2008-07-03 One winged angels fly in circles To brass tacks on the quick: The game is entertaining and beautiful, but ultimately relatively shallow. I won't go into the storyline, but what's there is a decent tale presented by a cast you don't see long enough to really empathize with. So that leaves the gameplay.
Hack and slash with simple dodge and block buttons make for easy, repetative gameplay. Which is most of what Crisis Core is. Sure, there's magic and barrier spells and the DMW (don't worry about what it is, since it's completely random and more of a background feature than a prime component of gameplay despite how integrated it is)...but what it comes down to, ultimately is that it's a hack and slash game with a few more options than most for customizing your brawler. This is FINE and actually very fun when you're cruising through the main storyline...it is intolerable when it comes to doing the awful, redundant missions. A bare minimum of effort was put into the hundreds upon hundreds of copy-paste "missions" the game has available to you and they are pure drudgery in the interest of obtaining the game's most powerful and interesting items, equipment and materia.
The negative tone here makes it sound like I don't like Crisis Core, which is of course, untrue. I think the game is gorgeous, fun to play and a blast to tool around with customizing Zack and his magic, strength or fused materia. I just wish it had more variety available in the sidequests since the main storyline is brief and the remaining gameplay after that is uninspired.
Play it, but don't be surprised if you can't bring yourself to beat all the extra missions. Rating: Date: 2008-07-02 Crisis Core Great game. I aint beat it yet but its keeping me on my toes. Rating: Date: 2008-07-02 My favorite PSP game... so far (even with a few minor "issues") I got this game a few months ago now. I love the FF franchise, in fact it was this game that finally helped convince me to get a PSP.
The thing you have to realize is that it is NOT a typical FF game (I've played 7-10,12) It is very different. every version of FF I've played has a certain period of learning how to play the game since it does change but here are some of the major departures from what I am used to.
(so far at least) Zack is the only character you play. although you get to meet and interact with other (some faves from FF7) they never join your "party"
While there are some mini games in town areas you do all your shopping from within the game menu. this is convenient, but does take some of the fun out of exploration.
While there are plenty of diversions, including missions which I'll get to in a second, and the movies are pretty awesome, it does feel like you're stuck within the story framework. Ie there is no opportunity to explore the world map. In fact there isn't one.
the missions are this games answer to side quests, all conveniently accessible from within a save point menu. These missions are certainly fun, especially when you just want to hack & slash and not deal with the story line for a while. However, they can be somewhat tedious and repetitive after a while. but then since I often have to remind myself where the heck I was in the game maybe I just played the missions too long.
Sometimes the fights seem ridiculously easy, so much so that when a fight comes along that is truly "normal" or at my level, I have a hard time with it, having gotten used to the easier battles. I started the play on "normal" mode not realizing that would be the only opportunity to change it. I think I will try the harder mode next time. Rating: Date: 2008-06-30 Great Game If you have been a fan of previous Final Fantasy games, you will enjoy this game. The combat is different, but the game is still a blast. This is an excellent game for the PSP. If you own one, this is one of THE games to get for your handheld system. |
