Disney Ruined Doug
When on Nickalodean a while back, Doug was an amazing and popular cartoon that was impressive by any standard. It didn't need anything special but the classic kid with the imagination. When it went to Disney, the magic was gone forever. The show was no longer entertaining, but a pathetic cry for attention. It tried to be too independant and unrealistic as far as plots go. Then, they decided to kill Doug off once and for all. How? They made a movie. It was uninteresting, annoying, unrealistic, and the monster looked like a Barney on crack or something. Thanks a lot, Disney. You ruined yet another great thing.

Doug's first (and last) movie
I saw this at the movies one day, and I can't believe that Disney turned my favorite Nick show into THIS!!!
Disney changed the charachers' looks and personalities...(Patty became a girly-girl who forgot who to kick a 'beetball' , Connie got skinny, etc...) Oh, and the monster that lives in Lucky-Duck lake is lame! He looks like he's related to Barney!
I'd rather watck NICK Doug, because it has better quality that Disney's Doug!

Doug's 1st Movie... Ever!
"Doug" has always been an all-time favoite cartoon of mine. This was Nickelodeon very first official "Nicktoon", and what a great Nicktoon it was. To this day I can still watch it over and over even though I've seen every episode about a million times. "Doug" had a successful run on Nickeldoeon from 1991-1994, and for some reason "Doug" was sold to Disney in 1996 and appeared on ABC's "1 Saturday Morning" with the short-lived cartoon "The Mighty Ducks". It seems as tho' everybody hated Disney's new version of "Doug", and I always loved it. It wasn't half bad. I'd say the only bad move Disney made with Doug is making this movie. I remember I was 9 years old when this movie dropped in theatres, and I was so exatic to see it. I was young a naive then, and just loved the movie. Then one day recently I caught this movie on Toon Disney, and realized that it wasn't that great. I admit that I still do love the movie, but I see now why Nickelodeon never tried to give "Doug" its own movie. The reason being is that it wouldn't work, and Disney proved this. "Doug" was a wonderful cartoon series that depicted teenage life in a realistic yet comical way, and wasn't fit for theatres in any way. That being said I'd just like to say that this movie wasn't the best, but it was still comical and rather interesting. I like the footage after the movie is over with show creator Jim Jinkins. When are Doug and Patty going to kiss?

Fine showcasing of what went wrong with Doug
I used to watch the show Doug on Nickelodeon religiously as a little kid. At the time I was entertained by its charm and honest humor, but later on in life I realized some thing truly special about the show: all the things Doug went through as a teenager, I went through too. The show really did showcase a lot of real life situations through its characters. That was probably what the real joy of the show was.

Then things went wrong. Disney bought it.

What got changed? Patty gets a lesbian hair-do (I seriously thought at first she had suffered from leukemia and was regrowing her hair). Roger is rich (why?!?!? why make the school bully rich?). Skeeter gets cheeky (literally). Smash Adams is a clown. The Beets leave. Their grade jumps around from what it originally was in the TV show. Finally...there is no longer that honesty that I saw in the original show. There is no great metaphor for life, just the typical whacky adventures that have become so redundant. In the end all we get is a dried-up moral we've seen before. If I want that, I'll catch an after-school special. Or any thing else the Disney company has done.

I realize there was a reason Nickelodeon never made a Doug movie. It just wouldn't work. It was fine as a TV series back on Nickelodeon, then it was nabbed and butchered, and now we have this horrid hour and a half travesty on its name. This is truly a sad day for animation...
