After going through three vacuums in seven years, I decided to try the Dyson slim vacuum. It handles with great ease, is light weight and swivels on a dime. No tennis elbow here from pushing a heavy vacuum.
The rotating brush can be viewed through clear plastic and makes it undeniable whether it is working or not.
When using the attachments, the rotating brush is off.
I can actually vacuum my walk-in closet since this model swivels. It suctions up a remarkable amount of pet hair and kid hair from the carpets(not to be used on the actual kids and pets).
I find that it gets remarkably close to the baseboards and the dirt chamber is easy to empty.
The attachments are a little bit intimidating to use at first but stay where they attach to the brackets and don't fall off when bumped.
The sound of the motor is mid-level and not too terribly noisy.
Definitely worth the chunk of change that they charge to own it.
Rating: Date: 2008-06-24 Spreading the Dyson love! I'm a regular Monica Gellar when it comes to keeping my apartment clean (though having a roommate often retards the process), and I've had my heart set on a Dyson ever since my mother bought one about four or five years ago when I lived at home during my college summer breaks. No other vacuum I'd used maintained suction or was as easy to clean as the Dyson, and its clear container let me see the results of my labors. Well, after moving into my first nice apartment after college and using my roommate's next-to-worthless stick vac for seven months, I decided the time was nigh for me to invest in my own Dyson. I picked the DC18 Dyson Slim because it's the smallest model but still boasts powerful suction, plus I liked the idea of the swiveling head for easy steering. Well, countless sucking-sessions later, I could not be happier. This Dyson is just as sturdy as its big sisters (come on, you know they're girls... guys *never* clean this well) but its smaller dimensions and ball-head make navigating around and under furniture a breeze. The six attachments provide a lovely variety for cleaning options, and though the bin is somewhat small, it's also easy to see when it needs to be emptied. Throw in the five-year warranty that's included with new models and I think this is the beginning of a long, happy relationship. Rating: Date: 2008-06-19 WOW! I love my new Dyson DC18 vacuum cleaner I purchased the Total Access, the newer model that's dark purple. Let me tell ya, I wouldn't buy any other vacuum cleaner, plus it's a 5 year warranty. What more can you ask for? It took a while to put it together, but once you're done figuring out how to use it, it's a keeper.
I'm very picky and this vacuum cleaner is awesome.
There's some complaints I see here, but when are you going to vacuum at night? It doesn't need a light, plus it saves energy bills.
Removing the cord isn't a problem when you have to use the wand. It needs to be plugged to get the vacuum cleaner started.
The best part is it doesn't suck my carpet up to where my carpet doesn't lift up with the suction. Had that problem with some powerful vacuum cleaners, and it's not good when you have to hire someone to restretch it.
My Dyson stands up on it's on and have never fell. Maybe some people doesn't know how to lock it in place?
Glad that it's plastic. Isn't all of them made out of plastic? More metals, more heavier.
I have a pitbull and it sucks up alot of hair, haven't lost suction. Maybe your bin's full, or you got one that's a lemon?
Cons:I think it's 20 lbs instead of 15 lbs. It's pretty loud, but I think all vacuums are pretty loud when it's got power. All and all, it's s futuristic vacuum cleaner.
I gave this machine four stars, because no vaccum cleaners are made perfect. So far, it's worth what I paid for, $342. Glad I didn't pay over $400 for it.
Hope my review helped a little...
Rating: Date: 2008-06-10 Poor overall design. I'd be very careful when deciding to choose this Dyson. It has many design flaws that aren't normal for a dyson!
1) The kickstand isn't sturdy enough, this dyson is very prone to falling over at the slightest breeze.
2) Turning is difficult, despite the sudo-ball mechanism.
3) The air vents to the FRONT, blowing dust and dirt away from the Dyson. A very poor design, whereas all other dysons vent to the side.
4) Any reduction in suction by sucking up something, or placing hand over the tube requires you to take off the cannister or shut off the dyson to reclaim the air-flow. No other dyson requires this.
5) LOUD! This one is extremely loud and makes a very annoying "Whistle" noise. Almost impossible to use for those that have even reasonably sensitive hearing.
6) Feels cheap, most dysons feel rather sturdy, not this one! The hoses and parts also feel rather cheap.
Overall,I took this one back after 2 days and purchased the "Animal", and I am entirely satisfied with that one except the defect in the auto-height adjustment on very low carpet/rugs. Otherwise, I would never recommend this one, it is too pricey and with too many flaws. Rating: Date: 2008-06-09 Well worth the money!! At first I thought the price of this Dyson was ALOT more then I wanted to spend for a vacuum, but, this is not just any vacuum!! This makes vacuming SO much easier and this vacuum picks up much more then any other that I have owned! I love how the telescope comes out of the top, makes it so easy to suck up whatever is around the boarders. AND when you use the telecope/hose it deactivates the floor part and the brush stops spinning! Nice to know that you can take your time without digging a hole in your carpet! I also love how you can steer this vacuum... it is not just back and forth like most vacuums... this vacuum turns! And it is SO easy to use!! I bought this vacuum for the same price as offered here but it came with lots of attachments for the same price, at costco!! |
