Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-07-07 Excellent We needed a quick good printer that would also print onto CD's.
This is by far the best one for us and since it comes with it's
own print software for CD layout, it was the best money spent.
Be sure to buy CD's for inkjet printers, Staples has them along
with their own brand. Well worth the money and easy to use.
We like it better than Lightscribe, it's much quicker, and since
you can do full color, it's better for what we had in mind.
Took us a minute to figure out where the CD tray went, you simply
press the CD button and the front paper feed shifts and lifts a
large slot into place and you slide in the CD tray, easy.
You'll really enjoy this simple to use machine. It has a nice sleek
look to it, as well. Happy printing. Rating: Date: 2008-06-15 Good printer but not intuitive The printer simply is not intuitive. And for as big as Epson as a company, it should be able produce straight video tutorials that support their written documents. I've tried many times to make a simple copy of a document and I haven't been able to do so successfully. The controls are the printer simply are not clear enough for how to get a simple clean copy of a document. I ended up having to scan the document to make a good print. So unless you have lots of patience these type of all-in-one printers, I simply would not waste your money. Many of the other features, like the back-to-back printing are great (though the feature jams if you put 3-hole punched paper) are great, but I'm willing to bet that most users of this printer will become too frustrated to use more than a third of the features on the printer. It's really sad that Epson does not care enough about its customers to produce multimedia documents that help them with their printers. Rating: Date: 2008-05-26 Third Epson printer This is the third Epson printer I've bought or been familiar with. The others an RX-500 and an RX-580 we had on our home network. Recently the 500 died so we moved the 580 up to the house printer and I bought an RX-680 to replace it as my personal printer.
It's only been a few days but so far it works great. The pictures are fantastic. We had some relatives in town and we printed up some pictures on it for them to take with them. They were very impressed.
As far as the shaking is concerned, I can't see why anyone is complaining, it really isn't bad at all. I personally don't even notice it.
As far as the price of ink. I get my ink online at LD Products. The price is much better then through EPSON or purchased locally. With a coupon, I recently got three complete sets of high yield cartidges for under $80.
It was a good buy. I'm very happy. Rating: Date: 2008-05-15 A good printer I've had this printer four months now. Installed without a hitch in Vista. Bought it for it's CD printing capability which is very good. Mainly I use this printer for CD's, DVD's and DVD inserts however it also prints well on plain paper. Put the printer on text plus graphics for everything and haven't found it to be a big ink hog. Fact is I just replaced the yellow cartridge and my light cyan is almost gone. All the other colors are one quarter to one eighth ink left. Not bad for all the printing I've done on the supplied ink catridges. When a catridge runs out a window pops up on your screen telling you how to replace it. Also at anytime I can check ink levels from the computer.
This printer is so much better than the Epson 260 I tried and took back last year. No CD tray loading or jamming problems. Just line up the arrows and print away!! Oh and I didn't buy this printer from Amazon. Instead I got it from Best Buy with an extended warranty which so far has not had to be used. I'm pleased with this printer and hope it lasts a few years before I have to replace it.
Sure the ink is expensive however as I've already said I only had to replace one cartridge with another to be replaced fairly soon. The only haasle (besides the cost of ink) is the fact of the high capacity multi pack not having a black cartridge included. You have to buy that one by itself. No problem finding ink. I can get it directly from Epson, from Best Buy or at Microcenter either online or on a local store. Rating: Date: 2008-03-21 eh... I bought this printer having had excellent success over the past three years with an Epson CX 6400. It was down to this and the CX9000-some, which can fax, too. I ultimately chose this one because of the auto-duplexer, which I have since put to good use. The rear tray has some ergonomic problems that sometimes cause paper to load at an angle. I had this problem with my last printer, but the tab that is used to hold smaller than Letter-sized 8.5x11 sheets in is extremely cheap and only partially holds the paper in place.
First, the printer is extremely large. Even without the auto-duplexer, it takes up half of my entire desk, and seeing as I live in a tiny room with a small (but otherwise ample) desk, this is an impossible problem to solve. I didn't really realize the printer would be that big-- it's MUCH larger than my CX printer. They do not include a USB cable. I can't tell whether this is good, since I have several lying around and they are therefore preventing waste, or if it's bad, because it means they expect me to spend more money. The USB cable is routed THROUGH the printer and plugs in on the inside, which compromises its length significantly.
The auto-duplexer is, in conception, a dream, but it jams frequently. This is bad, because every time I print an extremely long document I always leave the room. I haven't used the CD tray and I don't intend to, so I can't comment on that. The dual paper trays are great, but it's very easy to configure them the wrong way on either your printer or on your computer. When I upgraded to OS 10.5 it erased all of my settings (gotta love Apple), so it took me awhile to figure out why I was printing out text documents on expensive 4x6 photo paper. Still, having two paper trays is unbelievably convenient, seeing as I quite frequently have to print out photo pages on photo paper amid batches of normal document printing.
The ink is extremely expensive. Expect to spend half or more of the price of the printer on each set of ink. I guess that's what they want.. I buy third party ink usually, seeing as voiding the warranty is outweighed by saving enough money every ten cartridges to buy a new printer-- but this ink is pretty hard to find for this machine. Fortunately, it's possible to get OEM ink on eBay for 1/2 to 3/4 the price of new ink, and I'm happy that I don't have to void the warranty by buying this real ink. One good thing about the ink is that it prints out extremely glossy photos that look just like real photos and, from what I can tell, resist smudging, fading, and damage from scotch transparent tape. Unfortunately this photo ink doesn't provide great clarity for black and white text printing.
Overall, I would recommend that people stick with the CX series. Ergonomically this printer is crap, even though it looks beautiful. The six inks are a bit much as far as handling them and purchasing them, and this printer is just way too unwieldy to be the fabled überprinter I thought it would be when I bought it. Or just don't expect a whole lot other than a printer that gets the job done... and then you should be satisfied. |
