Angry after listening!
I looked forward to this album, I counted the days! I am a huge fan. I have tickets to their show at Red Rocks with the Black Keys! I felt like I was robbed of $13 after listening! I think it was a joke, I don't think those guys could have honestly made that bad of an album! One of the worst I have ever listened to!!

Peanut Butter Pudding Surprise
Splendid follow up to Okonokos. Draws a bit more on the obscure. Prince influence on some tracks to the reviewer's delight. If you enjoy this band, you will like this album. For a new fan this might not be the first album to buy, but you won't be disappointed in the purchase either way.

I've Completely Changed My Mind
Music that appeals to me right away I lose interest in faster than music that grows over time. When I first heard "Evil Urges" I hated it. Now after two weeks of steady listening I love it. When I got over my anger for Highly Suspicious I realized how many amazing moments are on this disc. It has a definite classic rock sound. Jim James sounds great as usual. Stop all the camparisons to "Z" and the incredible "At Dawn", judge it on it's own. If you have not given it a fair chance please do, it's worth it.

THIS record should have been the one entitled ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
First of all, I love MMJ. They do have an amazing live show and their previous albums (I have all of them) are all worth listening to repeatedly.

The problem with this album, quite simply, is that it's boring. There are no epic peaks like with the previous albums, nor are there any crunchy country tunes - no good ones, at least. Even the tracks that people seem to like on this record, like "Touch Me 1&2" are just OK when compared to similar tracks on Z. And the big rock tracks on "Evil Urges" are just tired.

I've never done a review on Amazon, but this album was a supreme dissapointment, so I was inspired. If you want to get into MMJ, you should start with Z or It Still Moves.

eh.
Obviously MMJ's weakest album. I hope they got this Prince/70s cheese rock out of their system. The sad thing is that many of the songs are great musically, but lyrically fall short of the provocative and mysteriously poetic verses Jim used to pen. Others, like the title track, are ruined by a strangely low falsetto that easily could have been amazing songs if only they had been sung with some gusto. And let's not even talk about Highly Suspicious. Clearly, they were HIGH and thought this was funny/a good idea. It is neither. For my money, Smokin From Shootin is the best track, drawing you in with a steadily propulsive rhythm and atmosphere not found elsewhere on the album, and then exploding with a climactic coda at the end. It harkens back to Dondante from Z. The two versions of Touch Me I'm Going To Scream are the next best the album offers. The stretch of light rock musings in the middle/latter half of the album are listenable, but by no means their strongest writing. Then there's two hard rockers, which seem made to appease fans who aren't buying the 70s schtick. They are decent songs, but again don't match the classic rockers from It Still Moves.

But I can't be too hard on these guys. They still rock.
