About the Gerber LMF II Infantry Knife
The Gerber 22-01629 LMF II Infantry Knife is as adaptable as the personnel who carry it. This infantry knife also does a slick job cutting firewood and building shelter and can even be lashed to a pole to create a spear. On the end of the knife is a flat spot strong enough to drive a nail. This rugged and versatile survival tool features a high carbon stainless blade with shielded black surface. The handle is constructed with glass-filled nylon. The knife fits in a Molle-attachable sheath. The LMF II comes with Gerber's limited lifetime warranty.

A Note About LMF II Inventor Jeff Freeman
The Army trained Jeff to be an expert machinist, and then stationed him in Panama to perform aviation maintenance and toolmaking. Upon completion of his tour of duty he earned his BS in Manufacturing Engineering from Oregon State University while working full-time as a welder, machinist and ironworker. He joined the Gerber team in 1998. In the spring of 2000, he was promoted to Senior Mechanical Engineer and has been involved in new product design and development. Jeff's design credits include the Freeman Fixed Blade and collaboration on the Gerber-Emerson Alliance.

The Gerber Story
Savvy. Ingenuity. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to our emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. But then there's the issue of toughness. And frankly, nothing could be tougher than living down the first career of founder Joseph Gerber as...that's right...an advertising man. You could call it the "Boy Named Sue" syndrome. And live it down we have.

Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910. One Christmas, he hired a local knifemaker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.

It makes sense, really. An idea man gets the idea of a lifetime and turns it into a major outdoor brand. One that commands respect among knifelovers and knifemakers alike. And now that high regard is spreading in new directions, in the form of many outstanding products. Such as tools, personal L.E.D. lighting, and backpack hydration.

A great knife for the price!
This is one sturdy knife. I was able to split wood with ease and still hold a good edge. IT has a good weight and comes with a great sheath, with its own blade sharpener.

The hammer edge also comes in real handy. Have not tried tying the knife to a stick but its a great option in a survival situation. Paired with a fire steel fire starter, makes the pair a great survival kit.

Very good stuff
Very sturdy and well balanced, it fits perfectly in my hand. I'd still prefer a fine edge vs serrated but that only a small con. I've only used it for light duty stuff but so far the blade has been pretty good. I like the integrated sharpener, easy to use. The sheath is also very well made and has many attachment options.
Overall very good knife.

One heck of a knife!
First off, the size of this knife is bigger than I expected. This isn't going to slip into a pocket or be inconspicuous in any way. The sheath is rather large and has many diferent ways to attach to your person. The blade is thick and could only be described as heavy duty although it is not overly long. The handle provides a very secure grip. If you you were to go on a hike in a remote area, this would be one must have item along with food, water and signaling devices. The sheath has a nifty honing slot in it. I rate the quality as first rate.

One of gerbers best
This is one of Gerber's best knives.Buy one now because Gerber has a history of dis-continuing some of their best knives.
This knife is a great value considering that it is as good a knife as the Trident series which cost much more. The only shortcoming of this knife is the sheath,It's for a molle' vest and does not carry well for most. Some may see this as a plus, the constuction and material is first rate. The knife fits well in your hand, has a stout well shaped blade. The chisel point on the end of the handle is functional, but I wouldn't count on the hammer funtion, the flat is just too small.

Outstanding tactical knife
This is the best knife I've ever had, period. I enjoy hiking for days in a row and having a good knife is probably the most important thing to have on your side (along with a good friend and map, of course).

Pros:
1. Sturdy and well built with a great thick blade (you can use it as a hatchet if you hammer it with a stone)
2. Crafted *IN THE USA, YES SIR*: this is no cheap Chinese knock-off (sorry guys, you can't be great at everything)
3. Isolated butt-cap, which means that, if by an extremely unfortunate accident of life, you happen to dig into a electrical main, you won't die. (Apparently, this would be useful if you're into urban combat: that's what they say in the manual)
4. Comfortable grip material: it feels like your hand binds well to the knife.
5. Ships with a good sheath, very technical and complete with a neat sharpener: definitely a plus.

Cons:
1. Weight (3/4 lbs) and size mean this is no man-purse knife. If the TSA folks catch you with that I guess you better have no plans for the following 3 days.
2. You need to sharpen it before using it.
3. My girlfriend freaks out when she sees the knife.

Overall, a great knife for a wide range of use. Have fun!
