Chocolate milk
Horizon Organic Reduced Fat Milk, Chocolate, 8-Ounce Cartons (Pack of 18)
I bought this milk for my grandsons, aged 2 and 5. They really like this brand of chocolate milk. I think it is good for them because it contains no antibiotics, growth hormones or pesticides. It was very convenient to have it shipped right to my door. Rating:

Yumm milk that travels well
This is a great product because you have the option of serving it cold, but if you eat bagged lunch and take these with you, you mustn't worry about the milk going bad for being left out, as it requires no refrigeration.
The taste is noticeably rich and has a great consistency. It is all organic and made with pure cane sugar (no artificial anything!). The package is very conveniently portable and insulates fairly well, and it comes with a straw on the outside which is convertible.
The reason it loses a star, however, is that said straw no longer slurps very well after the milk gets down to a certain point, so eventually, you need to start tilting the package forward with your mouth attached to its top! Rating:

Horizon Organic Milk is a Hoax
Where to begin? What do real organic farmers and dairy farmers have to fear? A company that masquerades as organic but really has no interest beyond profiteering on the organic label. Horizon, owned by the giant Dean Foods, is such a company. Read up on this as much as you can - the more you learn the more you'll avoid this brand at every opportunity. Read up on a lawsuit with the FDA that the current administration has turned a blind eye towards -- just google cornucopia and Horizon. Real family dairy farmers say most organic dairy brands play by the rules but not Horizon. Observe their claim about family farms in the public relations product description above and then check out this picture of one of their "animal friendly" farms - just google fagundes and cornucopia -- what lovely pasture these cows have to enjoy. What crime did these cows commit to be put in the stockades like that? The only crime I see is that this milk is allowed to be sold at the organic price draped in pastoral imagery. Why take the chance? Buy local organic milk or another brand that you can trust. Shelf-stable milk is AWESOME--not so much the chocolate
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE shelf stable milk. Whoever made it so that milk could taste good and not have to be refrigerated is my personal hero. And I love chocolate milk. But the Horizon Organic Chocolate milk doesn't tast good to me. The regular milk is great, and even the vanilla is OK, but the chocolate just doens't taste good to me.
As far as the price goes, $[...] is outrageous when Costco carries the chocolate variety at like $[...] (or less). Whole Foods has a great price, too, but the closest one to us is like 100 miles away. |
