 Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-07-08 Great bike! I have purchased a Kent 20" folder in the past (sadly no longer made) and really loved it. Still, it was slightly bulky for my needs and a bit heavy.
The 16" magnesium folder is much lighter and much more compact. It is more easily carried in the trunk or brought on a train. Still, it is not small enough to carry on an airliner and checking it is an expensive option.
The only other downside is that the 16" folder is not nearly as fast as the 20". Everything is a compromise to get the best results.
Are there better and faster 16" folders out there? Yes. But the Kent is significantly cheaper, and my gut says will still be usable long after the more expensive competitors have given out.
Buy it while you still can; the drop of the dollar and cost of manufacturing appears to be causing Kent to question whether they still want to make this bike. Rating:  Date: 2008-06-23 Superior design Superior design, light weight, great value. This is the folding bike you want. Beats out all the competition at any price. Rating:  Date: 2008-06-15 4 minus, easy but often adjustments To be short, I have it for couple of months now;
PROS: light, easy adjustable, easy fold - unfold, springy seat, nice ride, soft and WIDE tires - no slippages, little or no rust, and comparing to $400 bikes - best for the money.
CONS: easy but often adjustments, seat is not for a long ride, rim ends welding are somewhat prominent so brake rubbing occurs, cranks are short, pedals need to be flipped over to the flat side, but once flipped you are good to go.
Thank you,
Polegin
P.S. suggestions for a folding bike $100 - $200 price range are greatly appreciated.
Rating: Date: 2008-06-13 Very compact bike, rides like it Just received this today. Good for commuting on public transportation or putting in car trunk. Easy to fold and set up. Not a long distance or hill climbing tool.
This bike has small fenders unlike the one in the photo. The peddles fold but are not well designed. They don't unfold flat (they have a bit of a slant to them. )
It will work well for my purpose put in car to ride 2/3 mile from parking to office.
This bike is very small and light. Quite nice for the price point and cost. It has a very small wheelbase consequently you have to be a fairly steady rider and I wouldn't recommend traveling at high speed down large hills, For flat urban riding commuters it will be great. What the short wheelbase gets you is the ability to ride and turn in very tight places. I can just about make a U turn in a wide hallway. I took it up a long wheelchair ramp with no problems.
Most everything is alloy and the bike was actually well set up out of the box. I didn't have to do a lot of tweeking. Most importantly the breaks were set up properly and the gears did work as they were supposed to.
This bike is not a replacement for a full sized bike. It has very short cranks an small wheels so it is not going to hill climb all that well and it won't cruise at over 20 mph like my $ 2,500 dollar road bike will. However it cost less than 7% as much, and folds up tiny. So if you are looking for something that will fold up really small and can take you a mile or so, or farther if you are in no particular hurry. (it is easy to peddle at the pace a fast jogger will go). Than this is the bike for you.
Mechanically it exceeded my expectations at this price point. I am 5'10" with 30" inseam the seat is just a tad too short for me for long distances. If you are of short stature or need a bike for a child (that won't abuse it) than this bike may be a better all around machine. Rating: Date: 2008-06-02 Kent Folding Bike This is a very neat, cleverly made folding bicycle. The quality is surprisingly good. It is not as light as I thought it would be, but it is light. I wouldn't care to take it on long rides but for short rides around the neighborhood or to get around an RV park or the race track pits, you can't beat it. They appear to have corrected some of the faults that were documented in prior reviews. Assembly is quick and there is a lot of adjustment capability. |
