Product Description: Kidde Talking Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Alarm - This home alarm is designed to warn you against two types of life-threatening dangers. Smoke and Carbon Monoxide. However with dual detection, how will you know what has been detected if the alarm goes off? Well, Kidde has included a voice warning to avoid any such confusion. A clear and loud voice will let you know if there's a fire or high carbon monoxide readings. It'll even tell you if your battery is low! Low Battery Warning Electrochemical Sensor Test Button Battery Backup Powered by 3 AA batteries (included) 5-Year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-06-25 great This unit will detect carbon monoxide and fires. Here is what I did in our house... Our Bedroom, Daughters bedroom and top of the stairs we have the regular detector with a light to help us see to get out. Our spare room at the top of the stairs has a regular detector that also has the wireless feature but also hardwires in to all the others. In our bathroom we have a plug in wireless fire alarm. It gets the signal from the one in the spare room if ANY of our detectors goes off. It makes a verbal announcement that there is a fire. It is very loud and can easily be heard if you are in the shower even with a radio on. In the office at the top of the stairs we have a dual sensor alarm so if either type of fire (slow or fast buring) is detected all alarms will go off. Lastly in the hallway at the bottom of our stairs we have this detector that does smoke and carbon monoxide. If it detects either it will set off all alarms including the one in the bathroom. I feel like we are covered in everyway possible. I feel all of these are much better than what was installed when we built the house 7 years ago. My father was a firefighter for 25 years and we live in a town that relies only on volunteers so I take these detectors very seriously. We have also had a very scary false alarm at 2am before. I can not imagine actually having your house burn down, the false alarm was terrifying enough. But if something terrible was to happen I want every chance to get my family out safe.
REMEMBER though that carbon monoxide should be detected at floor level. We also have a battery powered carbon monoxide detector in the room with our fireplace. We rely on this unit to wake us up if we are a sleep. It will still reach this detector before it reaches our bedrooms. An alarm is your only hope for carbon monoxide. Rating: Date: 2008-06-01 Combination interconnecting alarm I bought 2 of these for the new house I bought because It was prewired for wired units and interconnecting of the 2 units "the red wire". I got them both wired up, turned the breaker back on and both went off with a long beep followed by a voice saying something about a test. About 30 seconds later it said battery low, so I pulled the yellow tape and got them mounted and decided to press the test button. I press it, it goes off with all the different warning tones/voice oommands and then the other one on the other end of the house started to run the test too. The test was ran just by pressing the button on just one unit! With all the features of hardwire, battery backup, voice command,smoke/Co2,interconnections you can't put a price on safety and I feel this was money well spent. I recommend this to anyone looking for a unit with alot of features. Rating: Date: 2008-05-16 No problems so far I can't give this a perfect rating, because I don't know how well it will work in an emergency (and I hope I don't find out). I was glad to find both types of alarm in one package. The installation was not difficult (other than the fact that when I cut the circuit breaker to install these, it also cut power to a nearby light that I needed to do the work). No problems with these so far and I've had them in place for at least a couple of months. Rating: Date: 2008-05-03 Easy to install. Easy to install. No problems with the alarm(s) after 3 months of use. Having both smoke and CO2 detector together is a must for all homes. Rating: Date: 2008-04-30 The way to go I haven't seen the better choice for fire alarm yet.
My recommendation, at all cost, use wired-in alarms with battery backup, and have at least few (if not all) with CO detectors. To my experience battery-only CO detectors are battery eaters, so if you have few of those you will be replacing batteries every few week in at least one of them! With this one, you are set for years! And, yea, use a good battery, that thing starts beeping every minute or so if battary voltage starts to drop, I had no problem with Duracel batteries.
I have used 5 pre-wired combination alarms for 3 years, without replacing a battery, and after recent remodel we have added a fireplace in living room, and I was kinda cheap on wiring as we didn't do exstra electrical work and I wanted CO detector in the room with fireplace, so I put a battery-only model, and 6 month and 3 batteries later I finally hired an electician and put this model so it can feed on AC instead of the battery, like my other detectors... |
