do not buy this lock
Krypotnite will not stand by their product; they had a recall on their last model after a class action suit, and I have two of these now worthless paper weights. We have friends who have lost their bicycles because of Kryptonite's negligence.

great secondary lock.
very easy portable lock. fits easily in a back pocket or bag. the only drawbacks are its limitations as far as fitting around wider posts. also, generally wont fit around most things when trying to lock your frame and front wheel at the same time. i mostly use it as a secondary lock for securing my back wheel to the frame with a larger u-lock locking the front wheel and frame to a post. definitely useful if you're just running into somewhere quick and don't mind just locking the frame up.

What more do you want?
This is the best U-lock out there bar none. It's the lightest, strongest, best functioning lock around. The mount leaves something to be desired, but you can always be a hipster and use your back pocket (as pictured apparently). If you need a 15 pound chain, why even lock it up outside? Your components, or fork or handlebars could be stolen. Get a beater bike for the city and keep your joy riding bike inside and not for commuting!

One other tip: use locking skewers for your wheels; this lock won't easily fit through a wheel and a frame and something else, and cables are a pain

A bit high in price, but worth every penny
This lock won't do everything, but what it does do it will do incredibly well. It's a small lock, but what little is locked by it is not coming off anytime soon because of the lock itself. If you lock the rear tire within the bike frame to something, you've just effectively made the rear tire and frame as secure as it can ever get to anything. This leaves your front tire exposed, of course, but you can get a cable run through it if you really want to.

There is always the tension between how clunky something is and how effective it is, but honestly, I don't think it gets much safer than this. Chains have weak points, cables are easily cut, and bigger U-locks don't really do anything except allow you to tie your bicycle to more things, which isn't a problem as long as there's a rack around. The insurance is nice, too.

A best buy for the urban cyclist...
The size is perfect and it's just enough to keep your bike from disappearing when your in the record store.
