In researching the available products I settled on this one: Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway (WCG200). I have been very pleased with the ease of setup, range, functionality, and adaptability of this model and would highly recommend it for anyone who desires to go wireless with your home network and Cable Broadband service. Rating: Date: 2008-07-02 Unstable connection I bought it because it's a wireless router & modem combo. Read the reviewers but still gave it a go. I truly regretted having bought it. It's not stable as a lot of other people have already mentioned. Don't buy it... Rating: Date: 2008-06-13 Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway (WCG200) 100% satisfied! Only had to reset after power outage, then it was easily reset by flipping the on/off switch. Note: connected to Cox.net Rating: Date: 2008-06-12 Works great but not necessarily with Comcast Previous to using this gateway, I had another Linksys router connected to a Motorola cable modem. After a couple of years, I began to have connection problems and was often forced to reset both of them, and eventually had to do this once a week. Tired of the cables and wires anyway, I decided to replace them with this model as it was on Comcast's approved list. It was very easy to connect and once I called Comcast and gave them the MAC address it was up and running. It didn't take long though to determine that there is an apparent firmware issue when using this model with Comcast service. Currently, some of the security and set-up functionality is disabled and Comcast will have rollback the firmware to enable these. Something I am not looking forward to calling them about strictly because of the difficulty working with their customer service in the past. Other than that though, it works great. I have three computers running on this without any problems (at least so far). Rating: Date: 2008-06-08 Not up to the standard expected This two-in-one combo unit was one of the few models that Cox HSI supported, which I thought would perfectly work well and save money. But after a few weeks of testing, this unit appears to have unreliable connection issues. It randomly resets then restarts, which explained by a Cox technician "known router issue". The configurations are standard linksys config, easy to access. The range was also pretty good. But if you're looking for a reliable modem, go for the Surfboard from motorola or a 2-piece set instead of this combo unit. |
