The Maestro interface is incredibly easy to use, even for those who are not completely comfortable with electronics. At the same time, Magellan was ahead of the industry with useful innovations like multi-destination routing and pre-loaded reviews for points of interest like hotels and restaurants (from AAA). With it's 3200 and 4200 series, Magellan has improved the Maestro line giving them a SirfStar III chipset that provides super-fast. satellite lock and making them thinner. In fact, at .7 inches, these are -- at the time of this writing (November 2007), the thinnest portable GPS navigators available. Distingushing between models is also fairly easy.
3200 and 4200 Family of Navigators
Distingushing between models is also fairly easy. The 3200-series navigators feature a 3.5-inch screen, while the 4200s have a 4.3-inch widescreen display. The 3200 and 4200 offer great, basic navigation with turn-by-turn spoken directions, pre-loade maps of the 48 contiguous United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and 1.3 million POIs. The 3210 and 4210, add maps for Canada and Alaska, AAA travel information (see details below) and bump you up to 6 million POIs. The 3220 and 4220 add maps of Mexico. Great but falls short
This is a good GPS, and it was a great deal too. I'm happy there; it gets me where I need to go. However, the voice isn't as clear as other GPS units and doesn't chime in as early before a turn as I would like. The faster you drive the earlier the voice should tell you to turn I think and this one doesn't do that. If I'm not paying attention I really have to put the breaks on. But maybe that's just me. All and all as a GPS it's good and worth your money.
It has all your AAA stores listened and you can even search by them. I love this a lot!
The extra features are where it loses a star for me. It has a voice feature where you can simply say "Go Home" or "ATM" and it should direct you. However, I often have to scream it out more than once just to get it to acknowledge that I'm saying something. A screen then appears with a lits of commands it will respond to. I love the one that says "Where Am I" the most because it makes it easy to save and get a list of locations for easy clicking later. The problem is I have to yell it one or two more times to get it to work. I usually don't bother and just click the command instead.
The Where Am I command is a great feature for a GPS to have and it should have been put on the front screen of all units! An error all GPS's seem to have is confusing postal addresses with the city addresses. The Post office might have a place listed in one city or under a different street then the building itself has posted on there mail box. I find this comes up A LOT with all GPS units! Also some streets have different names to them, some even change there name half way through a town. RT 40 is also known has US40, or So and So street but eventually turns into Hamster road for some reason. When you finally find your mystery address you can simply say Where Am I and save it and never have to put up with the rat maze again!
To conclude, I love the where am I thing. But it's a shame I have to scream it out 4 times for it to respond.

Magellan Maestro 4250
Great product. Very detailed and somewhat easy to use. My only issue is that there are many detailed features on the unit and the instructions for use are VERY vague. I don't mind because I like to explore, but for my wife, it drove her crazy trying to figure out using it. Rating:

North America
When a manufacturer tells a customer that an item being purchased is capable of performing a certain task, that item should be able to perform that task. When told that this item had complete maps of North America, I took that statement to mean that the item would contain maps of the ENTIRE North American continent, which includes Canada, the United States, and Mexico. This GPS unit did not contain maps of Mexico, which is part of Norrh America. Not only did it not contain maps of Mexico, there were none available or compatible with this unit. Therefore the unit has been returned to the source, and I am awaiting word of its receipt and for credit to be remitted to my credit card. Rating:

IF YOU WANT PERFECTION DO IT YOURSELF
AFTER READING ALL THE REVIEWS I HAVE TO AGREE WITH ALLMOST EVERYONE GOOD AND BAD. REASON FOR BAD IS FIRST I BOUGHT A MAGELLAN 5310. LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT THE FIRST DAY PLAYED WITH IT FOR HOURS,ROUTED MY TRIP HOME RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX THEN SEARCHED POI ECT ECT.PLUGED IT IN THAT NIGHT TO CHARGE AND THATS PRETTY MUCH THE LAST THING IT EVER DID. NEXT DAY IT DIDNT TAKE A CHARGE KEPT TURNING ON AND OFF SCREEN WOULD FREEZE,OF COURSE I TURNED TO THE MANUAL NOOOO HELP.DIDNT EVEN SAY IT HAD A RESET BUTTON.SO KNOWING IT WAS BAD I RAN IT STRAIGHT BACK TO THE STORE AND DEMANDED A REFUND.
THATS WHEN I SPENT DAYS READING REVIEWS, REALIZED THEY ALL HAVE THERE PROBLEMS AND FOR THE PRICE,OPTIONS AND POI I STILL REALLY LIKED THE MAGELLAN AND THE 4250 SEEMED LIKE THE ONE. SO I RISK IT AND ORDERED ONE.
REALLY GLAD I DID THIS ONE HAS WORKED PRETTY MUCH FLAWLESSLY.
IT ROUTES AND REROUTES QUICKLY,LETS YOU SIMULATE THE ROUTE TO SEARCH FOR POI TO PLAN STOPS BEFORE YOU LEAVE OR SHOW YOU ON ROUTE TO LET YOU DECIDE. THE POI IS ALLMOST A GOOD AS THE YELLOW PAGES IT HAS EVERY THING. YOU CAN TURN ON AND OFF THE ONES YOU WANT TO SEE OR THE SCREEN GETS SO CROUDED WITH POI IT CRAZY. IF YOU PASS A TURN OR MAKE AN UNSCHEDULED STOP IT JUST REROUTES YOU. PLAN ALL YOUR DESTINATIONS FOR A DAY IN A FOLDER AND GO TO IT AND JUST SELECT THE NEXT DESTINATION IN ANY ORDER AND IT ROUTES YOU. ADDRESS BOOK WORKS GREAT TO, SELECT TO GO OR IF YOUVE ENTERED A PHONE NUMNBER JUST TOUCH IT AND THE BLUETOOTH CALLS FOR YOU.
THE SCREENS A GOOD SIZE THE 5310 WAS A LITTLE TO BIG. VOLUME IS GOOD EASY TO HEAR SOME REVIEWS SAID HARD TO HEAR OVER THE RADIO, WELL IF YOU WANT A LOAD RADIO YOUR NOT GOING TO HEAR IT DUH, WARNS YOU IN PLENTY OF TIME TO GET OVER FOR AN EXIT OR TELLS YOU THE ENTRANCE IS ON THE RIGHT OR LEFT, IF ITS A QUICK TURN IT TELLS YOU FOR EXAMPLE TURN RIGHT WITH AN IMEDIATE RIGHT TURN SO YOU GET THE RIGHT LANE. THE TOUCH SCREEN WORKS VERY GOOD, IT DOES SOMETIMES REQUIRE SEVERAL TOUCHES OR A BACK THEN TO WHERE YOU WERE BUT NOT OFTEN ENOUGH TO MAKE IT A PROBLEM JUST ANNOYING. THE VOICE COMMAND WORKS GOOD TO. AGAIN ITS NOT PERFECT BUT IF YOU EXPECT THAT BUY A UNIT THE COST 4 TIMES AS MUCH AND LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS BETTER, BET NOT.
IT SOMETIMES TAKES A COUPLE COMMANDS,OR WILL ASK FOR A COMMAND FOR NO REASON BUT IF YOU CAN SAY CANCEL PROBLEM SOLVED. AGAIN TO ME NOT A PROBLEM JUST SLIGHTLY ANOYING WHEN IT HAPPENS. MY BLUETOOTH IS EASY TO CONNECT, BUT WONT LIST IT, SO YOU HAVE TO CONNECT EVERYTIME YOU TURN IT ON.
AGAIN THE MANUAL REALLY IS LOUSY YOU MUST MUST MUST PLAY WITH IT AND TOUCH EVERY ICON BUTTON ECT TO FIND OUT ALL IT WILL DO.
THERE WAS REVIEWS SAYING THE FIRWARE DOWNLOAD FIXES A LOT OF THE MINOR PROBLEMS I MENTIONED, BUT IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN PULLED. CANT FIND IT ANYMORE. I EMAILED MAGELLAN THEY JUST SAID NO UPDATE IS AVAILABLE NOW. IT WORKS FINE THE WAY IT IS BUT I LOOK FORWARD TO A NEW UPDATE. MY MAPS HAVE BEEN AWSOME BUT THERES REALLY NO MAJOR CHANGES IN MY AREA FOR A WHILE, AND THE TRAFFIC ICON IS THERE BUT NEVER HAD TO ALLERT ME TO ANYTHING, I EXPECT IF IT WORKS OFF OF THE SAME LINES AS ROAD UPDATES IT WILL BE SLOW TO UPDATE PROBLEMS.
THIS ONE HAS NOT FROZEN UP AND NEVER HAD TO RESET IT.
COMES WITH THE HOUSE CHARGER CAR CHARGER AND USB CABLE, ALSO THE SUCTION CUP,I PURCHASED THE BEAN BAG WORKS GREAT. I HAVE HEARD FROM EVERYONE DONT LEAVE ANY EVEDENCE IN THE CAR OF A GPS OR IT WILL BE BROKEN INTO.
SO ALL I CAN REALLY SAY IS IF YOU GET ONE THAT WORKS ITS GREAT, IF NOT DONT BE SHY TO RETURN IT AND TRY ANOTHER ONE. MINE WAS WORTH IT. Rating:
