Another valuable function is the monitor's Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) reception. SAME allows users to program the radio to sound an alert only when weather and other emergencies threaten a selected county or counties. The technology eliminates all alerts from other areas, so users won't have to perk up their ears each time the alert sounds only to find the emergency is actually 100 miles up the highway. In addition, the WR-100B's memory system accepts up to 25 counties, so you can monitor a broad swatch of counties at once or restrict it to one.

Should an alert occur, users have a choice of three warning systems: a 90 dB siren, a voice alert, or a flashing red LED light. The siren is the best option for people with larger homes or who aren't always near the monitor, while the latter two options work well for smaller homes. Additional features include a clock with an alarm and a snooze button, an emergency power backup that keeps your radio working during power outages or outdoor use, and external antenna and alert jacks.

Perfect if only...
The radio works great. Will certainly wake you up quickly with the audible alert. Getting the current weather by hitting the snooze/weather bar is handy, and used every morning as we get ready for work.

However, we currently don't have the audible alterts on, because we got woken up quite well in the middle of the night...by an Amber alert. I certainly feel it important to get the word out for missing children, but it ought not trigger an audible alert. There is no action we can take at 2:00 in the morning. So in regards to that, I wish that I could configure the unit to only audible alert on certain events. It can differentiate between the alerts on the display screen, so the categorization is there.

Overall though, this works as advertised and I really appreciate the ability to filter the "reported on" area to my local zone.

This radio was a good investment. It keeps me informed of situations in my area no matter what time of day it is. It is also very easy to operate. I would recommend this radio to anyone who wants more security in knowing what is going on in there area.

Great product!
Awesome product. Works great! The different features make it so easy to program your area in- so you're only hearing alerts for your county and surrounding ones you want. The LCD is nice because in any inclement weather, if you missed the alert, you can always check it to see whats going on- b/c the alerts are continuosly scrolling across the screen until they expire. The LCD screen is also in LARGE PRINT, so it's easy to read. I bought this for my husband, whose previous weather radio finally died, and he thinks it's great. I highly reccommend this product- it's great in price and quality!
