A sweet family drama about a girl and her misunderstood horse, Moondance Alexander focuses on a teenager who is longing to fit into a world where she is considered an oddball. Though Moondance (Kay Panabaker) is cute as a button, she's saddled with an unpopular name and that, apparently, is enough to make other 15-year-old girls dislike her. But when the spunky kid finds a mischievous runaway pinto, her life changes for the better. The horse's owner is played by a gravely voiced Don Johnson, who allows Moondance to work at his stable. In return, he will also train her to ride Checkers, who is her new best friend. Moondance is convinced that Checkers is a champion jumper in the making that just needs someone to believe in him. She believes. And by the end of the movie, the parable won't be lost on anyone that in bringing out the best in Checkers, Moondance also discovers her own worth. Directed by soap opera star Michael Damian, the film has a warm, but cheesy made-for-TV vibe. The movie is not without charm. But there are virtually no surprises here, and the viewer easily guesses what will happen way before it actually does. Panabaker, Johnson and Lori Loughlin (as Moondance's mom) are all wonderful in their roles. But figure skater Sasha Cohen is sorely miscast as Moondance's high-school nemesis. --Jae-Ha Kim

Granddaughter loves it
I bought this video for my horse loving granddaughter and thoroughly enjoyed watching it with her. She has since watched it multiple times and still loves it.

A wonderful family film
A great movie for the entire family. Simple story and the acting was fine. A change for Don Johnson, but he is always fun to watch.

Exploits the sick fetish of girls and horses.
The movie tries way to hard to be supercute. It exists in a time and a place which simply does not exist. Old Mr. McClancy who runs the old time general store with the old timmy register and the 50's pinball machine in the corner is stock character #1. Let's face it any business that somewhat resembles the general store has long since been driven into the ground by Wall Mart. These teens exist only in movies made for adults to show teens how they should behave. I can't say that I hate this movie since it's just so forgettable. Two Stars.

Wonderful Family Movie
Moondance Alexander is an amazing family movie that doesn't need violence and foul language to entertain. The landscape shots are beautiful and the story will elicit different emotions for the viewer. Moondance Alexander is a wonderful story showing perseverance, achieving goals, and living again for several of the characters. Truly a must see for the family with teenagers.

Great Clean Non Sexy Movie
The story was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone liking horses and kids. The photography was really good and the horse actors were even better. All in all I will be passing my copy around.
