Broke my heart, so I skipped the middle
The first time through the book was hard. I skipped all the parts that didn't include the Cullen Family and felt like leaping off a tall building. It was not good. I finally got through the entire book the second time around. I can't imagine reading this book for fun, but it was needed to fully understand why Charlie hates Edward in Eclipse. Twilight and Eclipse are great, but this one is hard to read. I love Stephenie Meyer, but I'm so not looking forward to the New Moon movie.

Not a good role model for our teens
I have to admit I loved Twilight series when I first read them. But, then I started to think about what it promotes. I think Stephanie Meyer goes too close to the line and uses too much sensuality in a book geared towards teenagers. Her second and third book are much worse. It's sad to see an LDS author lower her standards to reach the national market. She didn't have to. She had a great plot that could have been written without the "steamy sections".

Here's some of the problems I had with the series:
1. Bella is constantly lying to her father.
2. Bella and Edward constantly flirt with going too far.
3. In the 3rd book all Bella can think about is having sex with her boyfriend.
4. Edward constantly stays in Bella's room overnight. They may not do "anything" but that is a recipe for disaster. How many teenagers are going to think that is okay or normal or that they can do that without getting into trouble.
5. Swear Words (even though they are "mild", can't you write a book without them?)
6. In-modest dresses that teenagers are trying to emulate. Stephanie Myers goes to great length to describe Bella's prom dress which was inspired from a runway dress she saw. How many mothers out there are okay with their daughters wearing dresses straight from the model runways?
7. Bella just does what she wants without thinking of others.

Don't even start the series! I wouldn't want my girls to get hooked and then read #3 - Eclipse! That one is definitely crossing the line. Too much sensuality and absolutely no morals! Not a good role model for our teens

2nd book in series more teenage angsty fun
Edward and Bella's romance is going along smoothly until an accident proves that her humanity is one issue they just can't overcome. Edward not only breaks up with Bella, but thoroughly breaks her as well by telling her that he doesn't love her and never will. The Cullens leave town, and Bella reacts by first becoming nearly comatose before stumbling through life like a zombie. But then Jacob returns bringing the sunshine of his personality to bear and brings warmth back to Bella and her life. Jacob is warm, open, and sweet all the things that Edward isn't, but despite his open affection for her, Bella can't seem to shake the deep love she has for Edward and the feeling that her life isn't completely full without him. Comparisons with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet abound throughout the story, and they aren't far off. Bella is a shell of the character she was in the first book; she no longer loves to read, and her thoughts revolve almost completely around Edward and trying to fill the hole that he left in her life. Oh, the teenage angst! Bella, while not as interesting this time around, certainly attracts intriguing men, and this book is pure wish fulfillment for teenage girls (and their moms) everywhere. Both the bad boy and the good guy want her, and will do anything for her safety and happiness. Myers has a real flair for portraying Bella's tortured emotions in a way that's sympathetic without being pathetic. I know that Myers fans are split between being Jacob and Edward fans; personally, I'm a Jacob fan (and my daughter is too!). I give the book 4-1/2 stars.

Does not let you down
OMG!!! I really like Jacob but Bella sometimes it is kind of hard. I have to say I can definetily relate to her when I was younger and how she can be so annoying. I found myself caring and rooting more for Jacob on this book and sometimes I really wished Bella did not whine so much. But again, It is a good book and again the author saves the best to last. Well, I can't wait for the Breaking Dawn Party at Barnes and Noble at midnight. Hope everyone can go.

Drew me in at the beginning and then....
Giving my honest opinion, I would say that the second installment of the twlight saga can be skipped. Not alot happens in this book except that Edward Cullen, Bella's boyfriend goes away after freaking out again over Bella getting a paper cut and spilling some blood at his home in front of his vampire family. I do admit the writing in this book in terms of the way the author discribes the part where Edward breaks up with Bella is heartbreaking and brilliant. Other than that, you could really just skip the book and pick up Eclipise (book 3) UNLESS you care about the story of the character Jacob, his history and his flowering relationship with Bella as he draws her out of depression in the wake of Edward's absence.

Just to be clear with some of you if might think of purchasing this book solely to see if Bella:

Turns into a vampire

Loses her virginity

Gets Married

The answer to all of the above is NO. There I saved you some cash, now go by the 3rd book, it get into *cough* more of THOSE issues.
