Customer Reviews: Rating:  Date: 2008-07-08 Lives up to the hype I'm a practicing medical doctor (disclaimer--I'm not giving you any specific medical advice on individual level) and have worked out about 4-5 days a week for years. This is the BEST workout program I have ever tried. Its also the most complete in 1 package approach I've seen. It takes some very cutting edge stuff in excercise science & makes it reality.
What I really like about it is it gives a very effective workout & you get faster results because of its use of muscle confusion which gives more efficient work outs because the muscle groups are constantly changed. It also works out all the major muscle groups & gives cardio, yoga, martial arts & stretching in addition to simple strength training. It also gives a book on dieting. Each specific part-the strength training, dieting, cardio, nutrition, they are all in tune modern scientific knowledge. Even the martial arts DVD has you doing moves that are real martial arts (& I've taken martial arts lessons for years). I'm no yoga expert, but people I know who have done it for years were impressed with its yoga DVD.
I have found this DVD more effective than working out in a high end gym for about 1 hr a day. You don't need much equipment, about $150 worth of equipment tops (some dumbells, a pull up bar, you can get more but this is all you really need).
The only thing I didn't like about this series is you have to spend over an hour a day on several of the workouts. This is very time consuming though you will see results fast. I suggest that some of the portions of the workout be performed at double speed on the DVD player such as warm up & stretching to save time. I've been able to cut the workout down by about 10-15 minutes (to about 45-55 minutes a day) but in my opinion I get the same benefits because I do think the stretching & warm up are on the long side. Aside from that I think this DVD series is the best there is. Rating:  Date: 2008-07-06 Better Than a Gym membership A great workout that gives great results. It is a Full Body Workout. Rating:  Date: 2008-06-28 P90x is the real deal After much research and 45 days of working out to the videos (at the end of my sixth week of the 12 week process),I can write that P90x is the real deal. All of the moves are push and pull to the extreme and old fashioned hard work is the only way to get great results. The nutrition guide that comes with the program is excellent and provides for many ways of reducing your fat intake and increasing your lean meat, fish, low calorie high protein foods.
Tony is very good about showing good form and making corrections for you to follow. I love his energy, humor and enthusiasm. Its the best investment I have made in fitness.
Need more proof. I was a 210 lbs man at 28% body fat, after 30 days, I remained a 210 lbs man and body fat was reduced to 21%. The body fat test was administered by the same health trainer both times and at a highly reputable fitness center. That means i dropped fat and gained muscle at the same time for a net even weight loss. Cant wait to see the next 30 days results. Rating:  Date: 2008-06-21 50 years old and in the best shape of my life There are so many great reviews of this product already here but I felt compelled to add my own. I have been running and doing yoga for years and was in reasonably good shape (5'11" 180lbs) when I started P90X but was feeling blue about recently turning 50 and wanted to see if I could get in better shape. You should be aware that to be successfull on P90X, you also need to change your diet. This is very important. There is a diet book that comes with P90X, I did not follow it too closely but took away some key points: more lean protein, no dessert, no junk, reduce alchohol, cut back on carbs(initially , later in the program you need carbs). The most important diet pointers are to eat several small meals throughout the day and to not eat within 2 hours of going to bed. You need to set aside time to do this program, at least 1 hr per day, 6 days a week and 1.5 hrs on the yoga day (once a week , except twice a week for 3 of the weeks).
That being said it works and I actually began to look forward to the workouts(after a few weeks). In 90 days I lost 17 lbs and gained a lot of strength. I went from size 34 pants being tight to size 32 being loose. When I started I could do 5 pullups(I thought that was pretty good at the time), now I can do 12. The workouts are tough, you have to adopt their motto that they start every DVD with "BRING IT". You need to live that. I wish this program was around 20 years ago, I have spent so much on gyms, yoga DVDs, yoga classes, etc. Nothing I have done has gotten in the kind of shape P90X did. Enjoy! Rating:  Date: 2008-06-16 Miracle results I am currently just about to start the seventh week. This routine is amazing. I am 21 and have been working out since I was 16. I have always been buff, and a few times with some dieting I got ripped but never with the drastic results that I got from p90x. Even training in the gym for an hour everyday would not do the same as this routine. Within the first 3 weeks my body transformed. I even lost my love handles that I could not completely get rid of no matter how fit I got. All the men on my father's side have huge love handles, even the rather skinny ones. No matter how much I denied a genetic connection saying that it was because I don't workout and diet enough (and I did, hardcore), I was about to give in and accept that I will have it forever or require surgery. Now, I am ripped up, I have a six-pack coming in (my mid section is toned and tight and light cuts on my abs are appearing). It really works as drastically as the people on the ads promise.
The one issue I had was that it includes so many different workouts so and follows one quickly after another that having access to the right weight would require an expensive full dumbbell set. Using adjustable dumbbells would take too long between workouts to change and that bowflex dumbbell are too bulky, expensive, and only go up to a certain weight. That is why I just got the bands and I hope it works as well as the free weights, but I won't use them to replace actual pull ups. |
