Most of my towers are 20 miles away in the same direction. UHF and VHF. The others are UHF 5 miles away. Rating: Date: 2008-06-22 Great little antenna We purchased another RCA antenna from a local TV repair shop for $60. It worked well, so we decided to try this one because it has even more DBs. Our digital reception is now majorly better. It is for both VHF and UHF, easy to hook up, and easy to adjust. I would definitely recommend this little gem. Rating: Date: 2008-06-14 Look old It looks old to me,( some dust on the antenna)but may be just because they store for a long time. I get 5 channel out of it Rating: Date: 2008-06-12 Worthless We get decent off-air digital reception with a cheap VHF/UHF antenna, but I wanted to boost the signals of a couple sketchy signals to make them come in more consistently. So, I bought the RCA ANT1251. Long story short, it brought in signals WORSE than the cheapie we wanted to replace. The amplification didn't do anything whatsoever. No amount of repositioning helped. The unit looks nice and it has a space-saving footprint, but it simply doesn't work. Rating: Date: 2008-06-03 Digital and Analog Antenna To start: Digital TV does NOT mean HDTV. Many digital channels are HDTV, but not all. Digital is the signal/transmission type, HDTV refers to the quality of the content.
This antenna receives both UHF and VHF, meaning that it'll receive digital and analog signals, at least until most analog signals go off-air in Feb 2009 (See http://www.dtv2009.gov/). It is amplified, so it will require power and should give you a better signal than non-amplified atennas. It has separate amplification adjustments, which allows you to fine tune the amplification for best reception on both digital and analog.
TVs these days don't come with antennas any more so the only comparison I have is with a paperclip (try it, it works!). I got 8 channels with a paperclip and 29 channels with this antenna.
TV signals are very directional and trees, buildings, etc will bounce the signal around, so try rotating the antenna slowly to tune digital channels. Analog channels are adjusted with the rabbit years.
Finding the best direction for digital channels is a bit tricky because you either get an image or you don't, there's not much in between so be prepared to spend some time.
I wouldn't pay more than $15 for it because I'm not sure if it's worth much more than rabbit ears. |
