Album Description: Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace, the eighth studio album from the OC punksters, is an impressive new set of songs from one of rock's most exciting and enduring bands. The Offspring entered the studio with legendary producer Bob Rock (Metallica, The Cult) to record 12 new songs culled from the most productive songwriting period in the band's history. This is the band's first full-length studio release in four and a half years, the longest gap between The Offspring's studio albums to date. 'Hammerhead' the 1st single from Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace debuted at #5 on the U.S Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and #18 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks respectively. The Offspring has performed over 1000 shows and they have sold more than 34 million albums worldwide, including their 1994 release "Smash," which more than a decade after its release remains the highest-selling album of all time on an independent label. Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-07-08 You're Gonna Go Far kid This cd is awesome. I own all of the Offspring's cds and I felt that this cd really just brought back my old feelings for the Offspring, when I first became a fan back when Smash came out. I like the fact that they are really trying some different sounds and have some more diversity to their music. Unfortunately, I am in Afghanistan but hopefully I can make a concert of theirs for this cd when I get home.
Great CD!
Peter Rating: Date: 2008-07-07 What I Was Looking For There are many different ways to begin to review a CD but, for some reason, I can't get past one single word running through my head when I think of "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace": epic.
As I'm sitting and typing at this moment I've come to realize what makes me come to that word. Have you ever heard a song that connected to your emotions so accurately and your feeling at that moment so perfectly that you thought 'I knew I was going to hear this song some day'? The songs "Hammerhead" and "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" are did that to me. They're the type of songs that you want to sing loudly along with while driving down the interstate with the windows down. Well, at least I do.
Another stand out song for me is "Stuff Is So Messed Up". The song takes an amusing approach at stating several truths about the our current state and I was pleasantly surprised when I heard it the first time.
I'm no expert in music. At the moment I only own about 50 CDs compared to the hardcore music fanatics whose collections reach the hundreds. I couldn't give you any information on them beyond the group and the names of the songs either, where others know such trivial information as the names of every grandmother of the members of every band they have a CD of (or something equally ridiculous). However I know what kind of music I like and this CD definitely has it.
On a side note, I thought the inside cover artwork for this CD was perfect for the sound of it all. Rating: Date: 2008-07-04 A Very Solid CD As I sit here listening to this cd for about the tenth time, it still sounds brand new. This is the best cd 'The Offspring' have recorded since 'Ixnay'. Some reviewers have compared some riffs from this cd to Coldplay and Green Day, saying that they are rip offs. To them I say, are you aware how many f***ing songs are out there? (every single song ever written has another song that sounds similar) This cd is very original and I don't see Coldplay or Green Day at all. There is something for everyone (power ballads, punk tracks, pop punk songs, even a dance rock song) To me, it's like they took their discography and picked two or three of their best songs from each cd and compiled this one. Very very solid cd, and to the reviewer that said they sound like sell outs, how old are you? How old are the offspring? You can't be singing about drugs, killing your girlfriend, and road rage when you've got a wife and kids. There is a difference between selling out and growing up, blink 182 did the same thing. And whoever said Dexter sounds like Weird Al, I agree. Rating: Date: 2008-07-03 Creative Adaptive Original There are bands who make 2 out of 8 good albums and generally the more they make the worse they get. I honestly do NOT believe that The Offspring is not one of them. I really, really liked this album. I've been listening to them since Ignition and I'm actually impressed for several reasons. For one they've kept their style of music, they've always been true to their art. There are other reviews saying this album isn't as good as other ones, and maybe not as fast. But here's the thing...they still create their style. No one can say this doesn't sound like Offspring because it does, they've only become more creative, adaptive yet still original. And for those who do complain that this doesn't sound exactly like their other albums should be glad. If it did others would comment that this is nothing new and it sounds like all their other albums.
Honestly I think musically, this is their best album. More thought went not only into the words but the musical arrangement. I actually felt emotion (other than anger or frustration) in most of the songs. And the songs hit hard.
So if you can appreciate an honest band perfecting their art you'll love this album. And I'm glad they continue to do what they do. Rating: Date: 2008-07-03 Excellent Album, Too Long in the Making. The only beef I have with this album is how long it took to finally get here. Like most Offspring listeners, I've been on board since day one. With most of their older albums, I can easily listen from the beginning to the end. This album follows suit, bringing some new stuff to the table.
Highly recommended to anyone wishing to expand their Offspring collection. |
