Amazon.com: The double-disc soundtrack to the blockbuster Saturday Night Fever (available on a single CD) marks both the zenith and the nadir of disco. It was such a popular sensation that it catapulted the music to stratospheric levels of mainstream popularity, and the album was the bestselling movie soundtrack of all time (until The Bodyguard, and then Titanic). But "Disco Fever" became so hot, it could only flame out just as quickly (along with the careers of the Bee Gees). With this record, disco became a phenomenon and a fad. The Bee Gees' contributions are the strongest, especially the once-ubiquitous "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever," and they still hold up. Then there's Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven," a trivial piece of pop ephemera that may have set new standards for ephemeral triviality. How often will you listen to this record--and how much will you play when you do? There's no telling--but it remains a classic piece of pop history, and when you're in the mood it's a good thing to have around. --Jim Emerson Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2007-12-23 A major cd of the disco era This album is one of the most important to have in your cd collection for the success of a good party with friends, so many memories come from this cd, memories of the 70's when we were young and "disco" was the big thing.
Thanks to the Bee Gees for their contribution for making this era an unforgettable one. Rating: Date: 2007-10-30 stayin alive is my jam the movie was a little corny but I can tolerate the tracks on here I do remember the 70's and stayin alive and more thaN A WOMAN are my joints on here sister sledge's he;s the greatest dancer is a smash too and can't forget the trampps disco inferno the good old days. Rating: Date: 2007-10-11 I bought this disc even though I used to hate disco. It's true, I was a rock'n roll, skinny, big hair, Black Sabbath concert t-shirt-wearin lad, back in '77. But I had a lot of great times while grimmacing when the Bee-Gees came on the radio, making out while listening to "More than a Woman", forcing myself out on the dance floor to "Disco Inferno" to keep up with the ladies, and trying to control myself at parties thinking "Stayin Alive". So I bought the disc and had shivers from all the great memories I had.... How bout you? Rating: Date: 2007-09-21 Excellent- A Time Piece and Cultural Legend I purchased this album in 1978. Clearly, it is a classic. Disco, of the 1970s, is actually fine music. This becomes more clear, when it is compared to much of today's sounds. Did I go to the disco clubs? Yes, in 1978-79. for about 8 months, in Sacramento. It is nice to enjoy the music. Rating: Date: 2007-07-14 Saturday Night Fever soundtrack My wife loves 70's music and the movie is a classic. No way you can go wrong with this! |
