Nice but limited
I was hoping to use this as transportation to work but it won't get me nearly that far. On a full charge I can get to my daughter's and back, with a little extra ride, about 3 miles on flat roads and 1 short hill. I guess if the world was flat and I weighed 90 lbs. I would be able to go farther and could get more use out of it. But as it is I can't justify the cost of this scooter. Next summer I will buy a bigger bike or scooter. I will justify spending this money by saying, "it's fun to ride".

Schwin 500CD Elec. Scooter
Hello, I am 14 years old, I am very pleased with this scooter as the battery lasts longer than my friend's battery who has a Razor E300 scooter. Also, this scooter is faster and I would recomend this scooter over the Razor E300 as it seems you are getting your money's worth with this one. But one day we were riding and we got pulled over by the police as I live and Wisconsin and they are illegal in the city I live. The officer said it was legal to ride it if you had a driver's license and you have registered your scooter. I still manage to ride my scooter, just not as often. So before purchasing, check your state laws. I hope this helps you

Disappointment
The bike was easy to assemble and use; unfortunately it only lasted three days before problems arose. First, the chain fell off, which required extensive work to repair. By the fifth day the battery no longer held a charge. We returned the bike.

Scooter is great, battery is weak, and cutomer service doesn't exist.
The scooter is fine, pretty fast. But mine only goes 2 miles tops before it is completely dead, and it will shut off on it's own for no reason. I've tried reaching CS by phone - on hold for an hour never reaching a human, by email - 'we no longer process CS by email, you must call.' So basically you're out of luck now if you have any problems, and lots seem to have problems.

Nice product for the price, terrible customer support
I bought this from wally world for about the same price. Build quality is okay but it definitely feels like, and it is a Chinese product. It is heavy steel and the welded joints are kind of ugly.

Averaging 7 mph with moderate 60% throttle use for about 40 minutes, I still had about half of battery left. I know because I used a kill-a-watt to measure how much electricity I spent on charging. It makes a whinning noise when moving, so it gets people's attention, which I don't like. It doens't freewheel, so the motor is always wearing out. I'm wondering how long the motor brush would last.

I weight 125 lbs, can climb hills fair on full throttle. I can ride my bicycle up the hill without standing up, but it will take some breath. The scooter is slow on hills, but not that bad. The lead acid battery must be recharged whenever possible, and it's not good to use more than 70% of the battery. The more you use up at once, the less cycle you'll have, especially worst if you use up more. I'm changing the battery to a NiCd battery pack soon.

The break is a strip break in a drum, not a disc break. It didn't work well when I first got this, but after couple days using the break, they are starting to work better.

I didn't attach the seat, so there is a big hole on the board. I wish there was a cover or something.

Because the board isn't sealing well, there are always some dirt that goes in to the battery pack area. I wish they used a better design.

I tried to call tech support to Currie tech, and I'm telling you it's really hard to talk with anyone. I had to hold about a hour to get connected on a Thursday afternoon. When I finally got to speak with one, they didn't have any of the answers for my questions. (I asked about freewheel, why the brakes don't work well, on what voltage the battery indicator light changes) So tech support was useless for me. I don't think there are any engineers in their tech support.

Overall, I think electric scooter market is still premature, and it's really hard to find a good product at a good price. I think Schwinn s500 is a good starter product.
