Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-06-21 EXCELENT HARDWARE THIS IS EXCELENT
great 160Gb hard disk great shap i like it very much Rating: Date: 2008-06-18 Great item Got this item a few weeks ago, no problems with it, fast, easy to use, ton's of space! Rating: Date: 2008-06-04 Disappointing I was very disapointed with this particular FreeAgent model for the following reasons.
1. Even after tech support help, it did not "see" certain data folders on my hard drive, therefore it didn't back them up.
2. Light on the unit did not pulsate when reading or writing was taking place. Tech support told me some individual units do and some don't (not a good answer). If there is no visual conformation, you really don't know if it is really copying.
3. The base of the unite gets hot. To my experience this could be an indicate of a shorter life span. It also has an unnecessary large yellow light on the top of the unit in addition to the smaller one that should be pulsating. This consumes more power contributing to the heat issue.
I would rather reccomend the cheaper FreeAgent 500 Gigs. I returned this unit and bought two of the FreeAgents on sale at Best Buy for $100 each. They work perfectly. The software also is simpler and easier to get into.
On a positive note, the support was very good. The trick to get connected to competent support techs is to ask for a "Level Two" tech after you let the overseas tech who answers your call fumble around for a few minutes. The level two guys are really good. If you let them, they will connect to your computer to see where the problem is.
To sum up: Dont't buy this model(FreeAgent Pro), but consider the cheaper FreeAgent.

I already had installed a 300 GB Seagate internal harddrive for my desktop and it is just wonderful and now I have this one for my laptop. I backed up my laptop using Acronis and will be doing so every so often and I keep there my photos and videos. I like its appearance and it is truly just plug in and drag any files you want over to it, very very easy. Actually, on the ad the eSata model was listed only with a one year warranty but when I received my Seagate external hard drivem it also came with a 5 year warranty which makes me feel good. Rating: Date: 2008-04-21 Fast, Sturdy, Sexy, Affordable After 5-6 weeks of use, this great drive only gets better, and I've had mny external HDDs. It is fast, beautiful (light "pipe" around whole perimeter and side logo -- (Seagate thoughtfully included an option to turn it off, though, as it is very bright & showy, but maintains class, but may not be appropriate for certain environments or aligned to everyone's taste for panache. Downstream and upstream transfers are speedy (used on Vista Ultimate PC (Dell 8400; 2005) and laptop (Dell M1530; 2008). Overall this drive feels solid and expensive, the exterior treatment, with its subtle shimmering hues, exudes class & feels as though it came from a CEO's desk. The drive is small (geometry)and fairly light, too. The software is very good too. GREAT PURCHASE! |
