Yet from the moment he wins her, Kyle treats Rose with a gentleness she hasn’t known since a family scandal destroyed her reputation. Now he has stunned her with a proposal of marriage–the first step in a seduction that will demand nothing less than her complete surrender.… Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-06-17 An improvement The good news is that this book is better than the previous book in the series 'Lessons of desire', which I thought was truly awful. This is a very competent story which some lovely romantic touches, but it didn't quite hit the same emotional note that the first book in the series did 'Rules of seduction'. This is a stand alone book but to really understand the full implications of what's going on, I would recommend you read the first in the series before this book.
Rating: Date: 2008-06-16 Good read...unbelievable premise As with most MH books, the story is well written and the connection between the hero and heroine has emotional resonance. That being said, the premise of this story irked me. How could somone who is raised in the uptight victorian straight and narrow ever 'mistakenly' think that a pre-marital affiar will not alter her social ranking, notwithstanding social fall from grace??? Rating: Date: 2008-06-14 Excellent Bounce Back I was disappointed in Ms. Hunter's previous book in this series, Lessons of Desire. The first book, The Rules of Seduction, was richly written, with characters really worth caring about. LOD was more difficult to appreciate because the heroine's upbringing made her an unsympathetic character for much of the story.
Happily, SECRETS OF SURRENDER returns to the background story introduced in TROS, and the damage done by two careless brothers continues to haunt the women in their family. Although the book stands fully on its own, I would suggest reading TROS first to understand the real emotional conflicts faced by Rose in Secrets of Surrender. Rating: Date: 2008-06-14 Not At All What You Expect! Especially the Ending!! Yes I know we have all read dozens of "romance" novels and we have every plot twist catalogued and anticipated. Nah, Nah--gotcha! From the sheer hideous and all so potentially true beginning and plight of the heroine, to the brutal truth regarding the closed nature of Bristish aristocracy--this one twists all the cliches. So much excellent research with a real sense of the cultural history of the time, make this virtually an enjoyable textbook of the period. The ending I had all figured out--right? Wrong! It is handled with such panache and, of course, a slight preview of the next book--WOW! The next book is an auto-buy and this one is a keeper. Rating: Date: 2008-06-12 I enjoyed this the most so far in the series! I really enjoyed this book especially the hero. It was a good uplifting read. I thought the hero was wonderful. Some may think he was a little to perfect, but I just found him to be a good hearted person and sexy to boot. If only there were more Kyle's in the world. I saw him as believable because he was also vulnerable as well. If you enjoy Madeline Hunter then definitely give this one a try! |
