Not so the Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia headphones, whose ultra-light in-the-ear design sounds great while minimizing distracting ambient noise. The closed-type construction makes the headphones a perfect fit for airline, train, or bus travel, or while dancing or skating to your own tune. The phones owe their audio performance to the extra-small 9 mm drivers and neodymium magnets fitted inside each earpiece. The drivers and magnets combine to generate high-intensity sound, with a deeper-than-expected bass response (as low as 6 Hz) and refreshingly crisp mid- and high-range tones. Listeners will also welcome the two sizes of ear buds that come with the headphones, ensuring that users find the right match for their individual ear shapes. The soft silicone buds are also responsible for much of the noise reduction. Additional features include an oxygen-free copper cord that reduces noise and improves signal transfer, a gold-plated mini-plug that resists corrosion, a stylish neck chain cord, and a streamlined carrying case that easily slips into a shirt pocket. I bought after two pairs of V-Moda Bass Freqs broke within a month for me. I've had these for over a month, and they still work great. I love the behind the neck design and the 90 degree headphone plug. They sound great, and can't be beat for the price. Rating: Date: 2008-06-24 Great headphones! I ordered these because regular earbud-type headphones always fall out of my ears and begin to hurt a lot after only 10-15 minutes. These headphones are great, especially because they come with three different size cups that fit in your ears (I have to use the smallest ones). You shouldn't buy these if you are primarily concerned with noise isolation (why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5), since they don't isolate all the noise. Having said that, though, I prefer to hear things around me when I'm listening to music, so the fact that I can hear the music much, much better than I ever have before with headphones on AND I can hear things going on around me (though quite muted) is a bonus for me. Rating: Date: 2008-06-22 Sony MDR-EX51LP Ear Buds This item works really well. I have problems with ear phones fitting in my ears but with the soft tips these work great. Would recommend these to others. Rating: Date: 2008-06-11 Took getting used to, but I like them I bought these headphones primarily for use in my office: my cubicle is close to a heavily used conference room and I have a boss who insists on strolling around the office whistling, the sound of which actually causes me physical discomfort. I'll admit that I was unimpressed when I first tried these headphones: the sound felt duller than that on my original iPod earphones and I did not get a feeling that these really reduced any outside noise. However, I first tried these sitting in my bedroom at home... the next day I tried them out in my office and began to feel differently. I put on my music when I came in and did not even realize that a meeting had started in the nearby conference room. When I listened hard, I could hear *some* talking, but it was very muffled and distant-sounding - not even close to the auditory terrorism I was used to. I also found I didn't have to crank the volume on the subway to hear my music over the noise from the train; while the register on these is lower than on other headphones, these have a great bass response, which blocks outside noise because the sound is all-around fuller. I also like the length/shape of the cord and find the soft silicone buds to be very comfortable.
My only main gripe about these is that, for a retail price of nearly $40, I'd expect the sound quality to be a *tad* higher from the get-go - like I said, I've gotten accustomed to the way these work, but I guess I was expecting a little more outright quality, you know? Still, these have helped tremendously in my quest for not feeling quite so encroached upon by the office din. Rating: Date: 2008-05-03 Decent The bass quality in these headphones is pretty amazing to say the least. However unless you are a freak at keeping your ears clean, they will get waxy and sometimes will irritate your ear. Good for short term uses not 3-4 hour long ones. |
