About Speedo In 1914, Speedo was founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills. A naming competition was held by the staff in 1928 and won by a Captain Parsonson, who coined the slogan, "Speed on in your Speedos." In 1929, the first swimsuits were in production and it didn’t take long for Speedo to successfully establish itself. World War II caused the brand turn over 90% of it’s manufacturing to war production, providing the armed services with vital equipment such as mosquito nets. After the war, Speedo opened a new factory and was able to re-establish itself, due to increased demand for swimsuits. In 1951, Speedo Knitting Mills (Holdings) Ltd, was incorporated and became a publicly traded company on the Sydney Stock exchange. Speedo hit the international stage in earnest, at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, and a few years later the brand grew on a more global scale. Export sales to the USA began and an international division was set up to monitor trade in New Zealand, Japan and South Africa. The expansion of the brand continued, and in 1976, Speedo was appointed as the official swimwear for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where 52 out of 54 countries wore their swimsuits. Speedo continues to make its mark in the pool and on the beach today. Many world class athletes who wear Speedo include U.S. phenomenon Michael Phelps, legendary Australian swimmer Grant Hackett, world record holder Kosuke Kitajima from Japan, and Holland’s Inge de Bruijn. What's in the Box? Two neoprene Speedo Aqua Fit Training Gloves Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-06-27 Absolutely get a size smaller Decent gloves but first and foremost... way way off on sizing. I am 6' and usually wear XL gloves but I have thin fingers. I can palm a basketball. The XL are ridiculous... they would fit a lineman in football, like a 6' 8" lineman. I'm not even sure the L will fit but returned the XL for a L, I'll update this once I get the new set.
Otherwise despite testing a set that were too big, these work really well. Stretch neoprene on top have little water resistance, the palm side has texture that is ultra resistant, so along with webbing you get really nice water traction. Huge help to me on crawls, not too much drag, very effective. Just make sure to get a size smaller than you usually wear. Rating: Date: 2008-04-24 increase your workout comfortable, well made gloves. easy to put on with wide velcro tabs. these gloves added great resistance and amped up my workout. Rating: Date: 2008-03-19 Great gloves. I wanted to add a little resistance to my lap swimming and water aerobic workouts. These gloves work really well. I like that my fingers are free, and the velcro strap makes it easy to adjust. Rating: Date: 2008-03-14 Nice, but could be better These gloves are very nice. After using them for about 5 months I can't see myself ever doing my laps without them. I was a bit unsure when I decided to get the medium fit but now I'm glad that I did. They fit perfectly. I'm 6' about 200 lbs but do not have very big hands. However, usually when I buy winter or work gloves I get the large size and they work fine. So in other words I feel that these swim gloves "run big". My only complaint with these gloves is that they do not last very long. I use mine for 20 minutes a day, five days a week and found myself needing a new pair after about 4 months. I realize that they are only about $15-$20 but I almost wished they cost more and lasted longer so I wouldn't have to replace them so often. All in all, I recommend them. It adds a whole new element to the swimming and allows for even greater muscle tone.
