No bigger than the palm of a hand, the timer is magnetized to stick to a refrigerator or stovetop or, alternatively, hangs via a clip or mounts onto a table with its wire stand. The large 0.7-inch LCD screen is easy to read and displays the current time in hours and minutes. When set for timing, the instrument displays in minutes and seconds and times up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds, which is ideal for monitoring cook times on dishes that require slow cooking, such as braised meats. The timer counts either up or down and emits a beeping noise when time has elapsed, which is easily turned off by pressing the Start/Stop button. The timer runs on a single AAA battery (included), and Taylor ensures complete accuracy in its readings through a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-06-29 Timer This is a good timer. I was looking for a louder ring, and this wasn't nearly loud enough for me, but might be OK for people who hear well. For a louder ring and easier use ( 10 big buttons to program the time period, instead of repeatedly punching the seconds & minutes buttons)I prefer the Taylor 10-key Style Timer, also sold here. Fast delivery. Rating: Date: 2008-06-27 The designer never used this timer This compact, attractive, inexpensive timer has several flaws that make it practically unusable.
- The numbers are so tall and skinny that they're hard to read. In addition, they're recessed quite deeply into the cutout in the case, so that if you tilt the timer just a little bit up or down, the tops or bottoms of the numbers are cut off.
- There's no button for resetting the time to 0. You have to press two other buttons at once, a clunky arrangement for a function you use all the time.
- The alarm is too soft to hear from more than one room away. (I replaced the battery it came with, but that didn't help.)
- When you set the timer on its stand on the kitchen counter, the face is nearly vertical, so you can't read it when standing and looking down at it from normal height. When you close the stand and stick it to a vertical surface (like the range hood) using the magnet, the face angles downward about 15 degrees, and again you can't read it.
- The magnet is too weak to hold it securely. The timer tends to slip and rotate. If you press a button while it's stuck to something, the magnet releases and the timer falls off. You ALWAYS have to use two hands to do anything with it.
I wanted to like this timer, but it's a complete loser. Rating: Date: 2008-05-27 Simple to use timer. Easy to use. No frills. One nice feature is it will also count "up" as well as "down." Loud alarm. Excellent. Rating: Date: 2008-05-27 Arrived Broken The LCD was broken when the product arrived. One of the numbers would not display. Aside from that, the product felt very cheap. I guess if it had arrived in working condition it would be worth the six bucks (hence the 2 stars), but I had to go buy something better. Rating: Date: 2008-05-25 Great item I have been using this timer for about a year now and it's perfect. I love the stand and the magnet back and the clip for my pocket. Works well in any situation I am in. Great for kids time-outs too. |
