Album Description: Formed in its namesake city in 1967, Chicago is the first American band ever to chart albums in Billboard®’s Pop Top 40 in five consecutive decades. In 2002, Rhino entered into a long-term partnership with this extraordinary group to restore their extensive, genre-defying catalogue as well as develop new projects (such as 2006’s XXX, their first new studio album in a decade). Now Rhino adds to Chicago’s legacy and salutes their 40th anniversary with a newly compiled 2-CD collection that spans their entire recording history, from the stellar 1969 debut LP Chicago Transit Authority to Chicago XXX. With a career encompassing five consecutive #1 albums, 13 platinum albums, 21 Top 10 singles, and many other laurels, Chicago is among the most successfully charting American groups of all time. Customer Reviews: Rating: Date: 2008-07-21 Good...with one exception Overall this is a good compilation if you're a fan of Chicago. However, I felt compelled to right this review to warn potential buyers of one serious problem with it. The included version of '25 or 6 to 4' is the radio edit/shortened version of the song. Yes, on the Best of Chicago 40th Anniversary album, their greatest song (in my opinion) has been butchered. I almost threw the CD case across the room when I found this out. What were they thinking? "Oh lets just cut up one of their biggest hits. Don't worry about ripping out some great guitar soloing; nobody cares about that." I care. And that's why I'm warning people. In case anybody else cares. Rating: Date: 2008-07-08 Excellent Compilation BUT... I have been a fan of Peter Cetera for many years. When I found out that he was a singer for Chicago, I was hooked and have been listening to Chicago ever since.
I thoroughly enjoy this CD. It has some of my favorite Chicago songs.
BUT...why does Chicago need so many greatest hits compilations. I purchased The Very Best of Chicago: Only the Beginning when it came out it is absolutely the best GREATEST HITS career retrospective from Chicago.
If you are new to Chicago (the band) this album is an excellent source of hit music it even includes some music from XXX album. But if you want more music get the other album. Rating: Date: 2008-06-29 Not everything I'd hoped for... but it'll suffice. Love the music... but I was a bit disappointed that some of the songs (most notably "25 or 6 to 4" and "Beginnings") were abridged -- or, more accurately -- hacked to death. But what should I have expected for $9.99? Rating: Date: 2008-05-10 how many more times are the record companies going to repackage the same chicago hits??? i love chicago. just saw them live as a matter of fact and they kicked butt. but with so many unreleased live performances and an entire album in the can ('94's unreleased stone of sysiphus) why are they rereleasing songs that chicago fans already have (also there's already several 'greatest hits' comps and boxed sets). this is a record label scam to repackage the same old crap for suckers Rating: Date: 2008-04-13 Bring on 31! Twenty Nine songs for $9.99! All classics too! They even included a couple songs from XXX. I cannot wait for a new CD. This, though, will take you on a ride through time and help you understand why there just is not anyone as good as the group Chicago in this day and age. |
