usb powered and most efficient metal cooler pad with 3 built-in fans for laptop computer

great little cooler so far
i received this product today so obviously i dont have a lot of use out of it just yet. but then again, i dont usually leave reviews. i'd like to say the quality of this item exceeded my expectations so far. it's actually a piece of metal with three little fans, seemingly the kind you'd find in the back of the desktop enclosure.

i've been debating for a while to get a cooler since my powerbook g4 gets pretty darn hot. but so far, my computer's been running for a good 1.5 hours and it is COOL. not warm, but the same temperature it would be if it were OFF. i am amazed.

the first thing i noticed when i took it out of the box (which looked like it was from china) was that it was metal. it's not plastic, but pretty sturdy.

the second thing is that it has rubber grommets that hold the computer up without scratching it, and so it doesnt contact the bottom.

the third... it is QUIET. when you plug it into the usb and flick the on switch, it's so much quieter than the mac's internal fan.

i hope it lasts. it seems like it was worth the money. it's funny, but i'd hate to think what it would be like to receive a plastic cooler. or a cooler with only ONE fan. this one has three! it has plenty of room to channel air through. i did plenty of reading of the other coolers.

i can think of one downside, however, and it is that the design doesnt accomodate on-the-lap usage. it's built to sit on your desk. oh well. no problem.

i gave it 4 stars because i havent put in an endurance test. i figured 4 stars is fair! so far i recommend this product. check out the two pictures i've uploaded. they're the ones that don't look ver professional. but i hope you get the idea.

Cool then trouble
Product worked great for months, then suddenly started causing my computer to reboot. I thought it was the usb port, but the trouble occured no matter which port the fan was plugged into.
Probably won't buy another.

Works great... while it actually works.
I was initially very satisfied with this fan. Its lightweight and does its job in keeping a laptop cool. The sharp edges mean if you are going to actually use it on your lap, you might want to have a pillow or some other surface for it to rest on, but this is really no big deal.

However, a mere month after I purchased the product, all three fans have gone dead for no apparent reason, making the fan nothing more than a useless piece of metal with jagged edges. $20 isn't going to get you a laptop fan that will last years - but I had certainly expected it to last longer than a mere month.

Great Find
I bought one months ago for our Toshiba laptop and haven't had any shutdowns since. It was shutting down almost every day.

It works.
First impressions: Made in China. Very generic, cheap presentation, but what matters is that it works well. I wouldn't leave this around small children, as the fans seem a bit exposed on the bottom.

I have a very hot-running GPU on my laptop, and it's idling at about 15 degrees lower than usual now (C). Tasks that previously brought my system to a halt now run rather smoothly. I've done a before-and-after test with CPUID - I didn't record exact numbers, but everything is certainly running cooler. It works.

Like others said, it's not designed to be the most elegant solution, it's just designed to be the most effective. I give it a thumbs up.
